Tempest/Teapot... Pistle/Whiss.

Oh, and thanks for the perks re: Baffin. We try.

We have few rules, but reserve the right to enforce 'em. We've earned that right. Period.

Our major "improvements" are a Temple to our Goddess, and a small "Ranger station" from which to protect, herd, and collect our local variety of terraforming organisms, the "Scrubbies".

We are after all, a bunch of Religious Kooks, not a militaristic mob...

Now, it just so happens that we are sitting on a "goldmine" as well.. that being the Barrier shortcut. We have not chosen to take advantage of that fact. Donations to our Temple Fund are completely voluntary. We do demand a certain recognition of our Ownership, and of the significance of our Roleplay and its history.

I will also share an observation. I believe that the Cortez system is destined to beome one of the new centers of activity in the "known" Sector. Coronado will become "populated". Numerous lucrative commodities are now traded through the Cortez system, a fact which pirates seem not to recognize, and which Interpol will also eventually have to contend with.

We got lucky, and no amount of whinging or exhortations to change the System ownership paradigm will sway my dedication to preserving Baffin and its future.

You can pry the Goddess' Home from my cold dead fingers.

23's,
Mal

Well, so far I like a lot of the discussion here, first I would like to say that there is a rule that can be interpreted to not allow entrance into guard systems which is the no OORP behavior rule. If a character wouldn't do it neither should you. Usually it is not interpreted that way though because it would be silly if it was all the time.

Now for what I think:

For the most part guard systems are good. I think having a system that home to one faction alone (for some a hideout, for others a stronghold) is completely in RP. Any faction would want a place they could fall back to and would probably try to find an empty system in the middle of nowhere if one with more resources wasn't available. It's a safety precaution that if a faction has the ability to ability to obtain they would. Every faction can build bases so it's arguable they have the ability.

Despite this fact I do think that some of the things these systems contain are OORP. I agree that some factions wouldn't have shipyards capable of building battleships, or at least none of the same quality as a house military. I think for these factions smaller or more rudimentary shipyards would be more appropriate. The problem with this is that some of these things have already been integrated into Disco cannon so they can't really be taken out now, also a lot of work and sometimes credits has been put into them so undoing it really wouldn't be fair. I dont really know what can be done now about guard systems, I think they are part of Disco and they are going to stay.

Well, because it's outside of Liberty's jurisdiction, for one. Independent Worlds are named such for a reason, after all.

Cassini will be bloody dangerous in 4.85, but we're only restricting access in RP, and we're doing it as Rogues should, haphazardly and without much thought put into the concept. There's even a non Rogue-Guard base in there. Be a tough pitch to find and if we catch you you will die.

I think there's a lot of potential in guard systems that go unused, which is part of the problem. They might all have different roles, for one thing.

I still think a good idea for Luneburg would be if it was a refuge for political prisoners.

Along the same lines, my vision for a future Saar includes a station designed for all of the families of the LWB members to live on since they may not want to be sitting around in regular Rheinland. Plus how could the LWB members visit easily?

Some get designed in a crazy manner, but I think if done with roleplay in mind, they're a good addition.

Gaurd Systems need to be RAMPED up, maybe a far off pirate base or enemy-nuetral faction far out in a nebula of the system, who thought they discovered it first...

They need MORE variety, for example Peurto Rico (Junker Gaurd) is a good start.
It has a very odd sun-radiation-death field.

Also, Omicron 82 is also very VERY nice.

Omicron 82 has periodic Nomad attacks, it would be nice to ramp that up too.

factions with low-defense'd gaurd systems (like xenos who only have 1 station) would suffer periodic NPC Gaurd Attacks (in this case it could be LN or LPI)

Of course, this would happen in under-defended Gaurd Systems.

When I made the Tau-45 system for the XA, advancing the Xeno RP was my primary motivation. Consider the fact that bases like Ouray, Nome, and Barrow are all very small, and unlikely to house non-combatants. Where will those non-combatants live? Refugio Base (a very, very large asteroid base) in Tau-45 serves as Xeno City, where most of our non-combatants live. Ouray is still the most important base for our militant wings (the part we RP ingame), though it's not considered our home, but rather a front-line firebase. There's a resource-rich planet in there, too, but we can't land on it, and lack the means to take advantage of the planet's resources, so we're still cash-poor, and strapped for resources.

As for the rest of the RP goodies in Tau-45, you'll just have to wait and see.

That's exactly what bugs me: unless I have a Xeno character, I cannot "wait and see", so a whole section of the RP of the server is closed to me...
