Which one is more insulting, do you think? It goes beyond RP, and it's personally insulting, even though I'm not Asian in anyway. You can be wittier than that, Blunt. Honestly, you can...

Actually, you're a little wrong in this one.

While the literal translation of Gaijin may be foreigner, it actually means more like 'unworthy barbarian'.

Trust me - get some Japanese middle management 6,000 miles from home and drinking, and they'll REALLY tell you what they think of your culture. Individually the Japanese are wonderful people. As a society, they're still incredibly racist against - well, everyone.

I really fail to see the point how you can compare a Hollywood movie with Freelancer Discovery Roleplay 24/7.

Similar ideas, here.

Regarding the whole racism issue. No I don't believe the "slant dogeater" or any other witty insult you created is viewed as real racism if expressed through a character's standpoint. Yes the factor of war further increases your argument about it being common for soldiers to act in such a way. Still, you approach it as a necessity rather than something a few characters might recognize as their "personality" to engage in racism remarks. The problem lies there, it is not something that is absolutely needed to establish the atmosphere of war.

I'm more concerned about to what level should we push this idea of yours to? How far should we really go with racial remarks expressed through our characters. When does it reach that fine line where you take a step back and think: Wait, even if I'm not Asian, that sounds a bit harsh to me.

When, is this rule applied:

Quote:3.1 Using coarse language, posting abusive, hateful, racist content in chat, public or private, is prohibited under any circumstances.

Well, if this rule is applied on one side, the Kusari NPCs should also be banned for saying 'gaijin'.

I think growing slightly thicker skin might be wise.

Oh it is easy to ignore almost everything said to you, regardless of the level of harshness. But, it does grow tiresome to hear these remarks all day. Perhaps the best option for me is to simply remove myself to roleplay in those areas then.

I'm not a big fan of racist talk/jokes/etc., but it has a place in the Bretonian/Kusari war. Two very different cultures butting heads, that's what happens. And, as people have already mentioned, 'gaijin' is just as much a racial slur as anything the Bretonians fling their way, it's just coming from the Japanese side so most people don't notice/don't care.

As a Gaian, I expect and tolerate racial and sexual abuse and innuendo from the Bretonian enlisted men.

What is really disappointing is seeing the officers indulge in this.

I would have expected the officers to be a cut above the rank-and-file soldier. Listening to them all engage in tales of rape and harrassement of women is a real turn off.

I deal with it by alluding to the fact that that Bretonians are little more than mindless thugs and rabble - and fully deserving their losses to the Kusari.

To be sure, when it comes to sexual abuse, the Hogosha can be just as bad - they do have a conservative cultural stereotype to enforce however.

To those who would say "Its a game, get over it PC rabble!" sure.
If people are not willing to work things out, perhaps some sanction reports should be filed and we can just let the Admins make their determination as to what is acceptable here?
