A nice little pirate ship costs about 3 mil to start, 5 mil with a half decent armor... and after that it's profit all the way from there.... Find a trader, tax him hard! And be polite.
You can do pirating also, like if you pirate 2 big traders in 10 min then you can easily earn 6 million, but you must do that in your zoi..just don't pirating everyone everywhere...
regarding codes, it is also good way to make money you can create an Armory char and sell code weapons...I have seen many guys looking for them..
If you can find the codenames, get 'em; you'll be rich.
Good luck finding the locations, though.
If not... might I suggest smuggling?
Entertaining, plenty of RP opportunities, and perhaps most importantly, highly profitable with a large enough ship.

Actually, Cam, mining is very profitable, and if you work with a group, can be much more profitable than trading. For example, i run the DSE, and we will get 3 Miners and 4 Super Transports and mine as a big group. Add in a Skype call, and it can be a blast. Just divide the money at the end, and everyone gets rich.
Rather than being negative about one of the very good alternatives to trading, why don?t you try something new. Maybe you will find something fun!
And another tip is if you know that you aren?t going to be fighting players, it?s okay to cut some corners on your loadouts. Another thing, pick up all the loot you can, and sell it. A medium level mission can drop loot equal to the payout of the mission, if not a bit more.
But the biggest way to make money is to find some friends and work together. Just having another person with you can make the time spent trading or mining fly by.
