Instead of a tool that could be abused ... tie all reps to the ID you carry on your ship. Whatever ID you mount becomes your IFF and all reps auto-propagate according to the faction ID purchased.

All new characters start with Civilian ID ... so this ID would produce a neutral rep with all factions until the individual chooses the faction to affiliate with. At this point ... the character would be hard-coded to the ID they purchased. Only way to change reps would be to purchase new ID's available ... since Zoners and Junkers are fairly neutral ... if someone wanted to go from bad to good ... they'd have to buy an intermediate ID before they could get a good ID ... and visa versa.

I am at present in a situation where this tool would be of great use:

Have a rheinland police char that, due to killing unlawfuls is getting on rather friendly terms with liberty companies.. and thats not something I want.

this and many other situations. why dont make a poll, and let the whole community vote on that.

BUT
and this is a big 'but', while we were thinking about it. We did find an abuse scenario.
A simple, quick /lower flhook command would mean that practically everyone would wear a guard tag.
Want Outcast guard tag?
OC bribe, /lower, OC bribe, /lower, OC bribe, /lower, OC bribe, /lower
Tada! OC guard tag.

Because of this the solution we came up with was, lower only by 0.1 per use, and make it cost 5 mill per use.

Sorry but here, I disagree your thinking Mule.
I can get the guard tag with that kind of technique for any factions but zoners and order (cause they don't have mission or bribe).

How to :
step 1 : Go into a base you have both missions and bribes for the faction you are looking for their guard tag.
step 2 : Bribe.
step 3 : Until you can get missions (you just need to be on the neutral level), get missions and drop it immediately.
step 4 : If there is no more missions cause you droped them all, change char and back on the same char, back to step 3.
step 5 : If you can't get more missions and still don't have guard rep maxed, back to step 2.
step 6 : Congratulation ! You have your guard reputation ! (And maybe it's your tag:))

You can let this abuse since there is an other way to use this abuse.

Make it -0.5 for 2 mills.

For once I agree with Grimly. There really is no way to abuse this.

The way I've thought about it is like this:

/derep <faction nickname> <amount>

FLHook then uses that nickname to get the faction code. FLHook then checks to see if the amount entered is more than the current amount. If so, the player gets an error message. If not, the value, name, and faction are run through setrep.

I have to say I am against this. I think you have to allow for specific differences in RP that can be represented by IFF. This flexibility allows for more creative RP and and helps spawn very interesting new things like new ID's and specail characters. I think this kind of variety can only add to the RP on the server.

The possible abuse is that everyone would have guard tags.
If the function was free, or allowed large amounts of derep, someone could easily bribe, lower rep, bribe 4 times, within a matter of a minute, and get a full guard tag, without doing a single mission.

Do we really want to see guard tags -everywhere-? Then what's the point?

The cost vs derep-amount has to be such that it's an affordable way of adjusting your rep after you've done missions, but at the same time, too expensive for someone to get rep with that alone.

Cannon's agreed to only make this flhook function if the -0.1/5mill restrictions were put in.

If someone has full guard rep, full faction rep, and 4 reps above guard rep, then he can simply /lower those 4 reps, then cancel missions until he has guard tag.

Why would getting a guard rep quickly be bad?
Up till this version the normal ID's could fly capitals and the many 'lulwutter's will get the rep one way or another if they want to, all we are doing at the moment is making it far harder for folks who just want to roleplay their role for a longer time than setting it up.
So yes, this tool would be fantastic.
