Idea for a character

So I just had an idea, stirred up by the introduction of the Researcher ID. I was thinking of creating a Bretonian researcher character. Before I create him, though (and post his backstory and flesh out a character), I wanted to get some feedback.

Considering the situation that Bretonia is in, what with the war and their losing it horribly, I figure that they'd be getting pretty desperate for some miraculous deus ex machina to appear and save them from the impending Kusari invasion.

That's where my character would come in. He would be a Bretonian xenoarchaeologist, searching frantically through the remains of the Slomon K'Hara (Nomads) for anything that might give Bretonia the upper hand. A super-weapon, some new means of transportation, advanced shield technology, anything that he could repurpose for the Armed Forces to use in the war.

What I'm looking for is the support of other players, or rather the support of other characters. My researcher would, realistically, need funding. I figure that the Bretonian government and the Bretonian Armed Forces would be all over this, eager to find something to turn the war around, but that's just my speculation. My character would also need help getting around. His studies will likely take him all around Sirius, and he'll need escorts to keep him safe in those more dangerous systems.

So what I'm really looking for here is "sponsorship", preferably from the BAF. I'd be like a civilian scientist commissioned by the government, or the military

As for the technical stuff, my character would probably fly a Clydesdale, or some other small freighter/transport, and operate mainly in the Newcastle system. I'd have a Researcher ID, and, hopefully, if the BAF accepts this proposal, an Armed Forces tag (since that's who I'd be working for).


So I figured I'd throw my idea out here for evaluation. Any foreseeable problems? Suggestions? Sponsorship?

The escorts for anywhere except Bretonia would have to be hired as BAF pilots couldn't go "all around sirius" and if it were funded by the BAF then reciepts would be required for ALL purcheses, in triplicate of course. :D But i like the idea and would add another twist to the story.
If it was cleared then i might take you up on the sponsorship/funding.

A Researcher using the Kusari Explorer cannot use any gunboat weapons, but may use level 5 turrets (or less).
Allowed ships: Freighters, Transports, Liners, Kusari Explorer (without gunboat weapons), Spatial
Carrying unmounted IDs in your ship, as well as not equipping an ID, is a serious crime. The Researcher ID does not make you immune to piracy or being fined by lawfuls; pirates and lawfuls may choose at their discretion whether to exempt you.

Nothing there that says you can't be a BAF researcher with BAF tag.
