I would consider that destruction of nature, and yet, The Gaian's in this matter are trying to preserve planets from being Terraformed and used for Farming or industrialization.

Artisinal Farming, that is small lot farming does not require that type of ecological destruction. It is organic, and uses already available land plots all over, look at the urban farm movement in the United States for an example.
