This has probably already been suggested, BUT here it goes:

Each clan's base/system (the bases that are now being implemented as a clan sector) should sell a certain type of ship (for example reinland, kusarri etc etc) depending on their allied faction. NOW, the ships that are provided should have a custom tail decal (say the clan's logo) or even a complete revamp of the ships entire body paint...

This would make it so when they came aroudn the corner.. you don't need to scan their cargo.. you know that death is on the way with that tiger stripe skin!!

ANyways, the rest is all self-explanitory... How fesable is this? I mean, all you would need to do is re-skin and save as a variant right?

Doable... but at 29 x 5 ship types, that's a whole lot of re-skinning. However, I'm interested in alternate skins for mkII (and now mkIII I guess for NPC) fighters, to distinguish a little between them. I dunno, I might have to get my system creation head on first, we got a whole lot of vacant space to fill :0x

I know this is an old topic but... I think the idea is good if the clans can supply the re-skinner. If not then they would have to pay somebody. Just like systems.

BTW I have MilkShape 3D 1.7.10 and I got an Importer and an Exporter of TLR. I put it into milkshape just the way it said and milkshape broke. When i deleted the new files then it worked fine again. anybody able to help?

1 more thing. since I have milkshape I have no intention of making new ships or editing old ones. Just want to re-skin stuff.:)

heh, a much simpler thing is to take the original skin file and edit it and re-pack it in place of the original using the same format in which the original file was. I don't need specifically milkshape for that, it's for modeling/editing the models.
On the other hand it's pretty much work (and size of the mod) as there would be a lot of copies of the same ships (just different skins).

Why would there be lots of different skins?

Theres only one Britonian and one Rheinland faction.

The Bs| are using only star wars ship imports.

The AW use whatever ships they like, the SSO| are easy to spot cos they're the only people using BHG ships.

So theres only two factions who need reskined ships, though to be honest the SF use whatever ships they like too, so it's just the RM using wraths etc.

Unless you meant reskin every ship a faction offically uses, to make them stand out...

I'm sure he meant adding a skin for every player faction (cca 20 factions atm), with every faction using at least 3 models of ships it'll add ~60 new ships to the mod. (I'm talking about Aubinator's post)

Anyway, if it was about only MK II ships being re-skinned... another thing.

However, two skin versions of the same ship require to have two copies of the same ship, just the skin in the package is different.

Yeah, i too like the idea but i cant mod for my life, the best i can do is a bit on FLE.

I think what he meant was too let each major faction who owns a system have a reskinned version of the ships.

Like an sso| version of a BHG bs, BHG destroyer and Manta, all sold on the BHG guard base.

so the freelancers not aligned with the sso| can have the normal one while we get the sso| skinned ones

At least i think thats how it works:P.

Same would be applicable for the other large factions, like RM, SF, AW, Bs| and any other large faction that i missed out.

@ McNeo yup ur rite thats pretty much wat I meant. I really meant to pay admins like 100-200 mil and then that faction gets to re-skin a ship but its a good idea to have a few free skins come with the system.

I like this idea, if it's not too hard on the mod/performance of the game. I also like the idea of making the faction pay for the mod in some way.

I think most factions would be willing to pay for re-skinning. Alas, HF, couldn't do it, we use any ship we want.:P

I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.
