Convict[X] - Chronicles of the betrayed

This character is one who feels life has dealt him a bad hand. He feels as tho he has great potential, but looking back at his life he finds himself in the worst situations imaginable. Along the way, his belief that survival is worth ANY cost, even his humanity, has cost him exactly that. Unable to remember his past, he attempts to decipher how he became this way, to reveal his identity (which he has somehow managed to forget in his stuggles), shed his feral nature, and to find his purpose in life.

Too much has happened in my life to remember it all. There are some things I can not remember, and there are memorys that can not be forgotten. Much of this tortured life is sad, full of anger, sorrow and futility. Many weaker of heart than myself would have ended it all, but I am a hardened warrior. The desire to figure out who I am, and the reason I must live my existance this way drives me like an infernal fire within my being. All remorse and fear are gone, all I have reaped from my trials are numerous scars which cover body. Wise men say, all things have a purpose, I have yet to find mine. I assume I will find out once I figure out my name.

All I know is, I am called... Convict[X]. Hopefully my beloved journal will lend me the clues I need.

Father sent this journal, advising me to document events in my life, he says it could help me one of these days. Despite beliveing that this is a horrible waste of time, I will attempt to make entrys when I can.

Today is my 3rd week at the Military Academy. Everything here seems so... natural, its like this is a destiny I am fulfilling. As I look around at my fellow cadets, struggling to make the grade, it confounds me as to why they find it so difficult. Despite this, there are several cadets besides myself who are excellent pilots. Unfortunately, I have found it impossible to befriend them. They, being aristocrats and related to the Chancellor himself by blood, refer to me as inferior. It seems to me that all assumptions that the caste system applies in a the Rhienland Military Academy is ludicrous. Here we are nothing, but cadets, mere neophytes learning the ways of war. Soon I will prove to them that they can not best me.

Journal Entry 2- (approximately 15 years ago)

It has been some time since I posted in my logs. The Academy has kept me busy. I have pretty much become a mortal enemies with the aristocrats in my class. It seems the class is split into two camps, one siding with the Aristocrats and one with myself. It escapes my grasp as to how it became this way. Arent we all on the same side? We all joined the Academy to defend the Rheinland Fatherland. But within this institution, we are at eachothers throats. Unfortunately, I see no way to resolve our differences.

Despite all of this, Instructor Leudast has taken me under his wing, providing me extra curricular training. Like a sponge, I have been doing my best to absorb every bit of information he has provided. Rumors have circulated among the other cadets, that he is a highly decorated fighter ace affiliated with a "black ops" outfit from within the Rheinland Guard. I am sure that such experience accounts for alot.

Last week, I had a close call, while doing after hours training, the Neural Net Trainer malfunctioned. Actually I dont know what happened. Leudast loaded the training program into the machine, and the next thing I remember, is waking up in a medical recovery nano tank. Leudast must have felt guilty, he was standing to the recovery tank most of the night. Thankfully, I was cleared after a battery of tests and relased to continue my training.

Journal Entry 3- (approximately 15 years ago)

Graduation day rapidly approaches. Amazingly we I managed to claim the "Topgun" honors at the last tournament, beating all in my class. It seems Leudast is an excellent trainer, and my progress has went well.

The main reason I wanted to write in my log is because I recieved a nasty beating by my aristocrat classmates. I have no clue how it happened. All I remember is sitting outside in the courtyard polishing my boots, unfortunately I was alone, the aristocrats caught me totally by surprise. There were too many to fight alone, and the beatdown was severe. Leudast ask that I not say anything, and that I would get my retribution soon... what ever that means.

Journal Entry 4- (approximately 14 years, 10 months ago)

I've finally graduated and joined Leudasts black op unit, tagged Jasta 13. My comrades are not exactly what I thought they would be. Ive always invisioned special operations members being brash, rough and tumble fellows. Most everyone here is quiet and reserved. Silent professionals, looking to stay under the radar.

Since arriving at the unit, I befriended Hammer, Blackbeard, and Hardnight. We've grown to trust eachother immensely, laying our lives in eachothers hands.

Lately the Jasta 13 have been ordered into Omicron Alpha and Omicron Beta. We've been tasked at eliminating key Outcast leaders. So far we have been highly successful, the amount of intel that we have collected has been astounding. I never imagined that the Outcasts were as organized or ruthless as they are. After completing our missions, we covertly return to our safehouse on Planet Malta. Hammer finds it very ironic that we are living among those we hunt. I think his exact words were, "wolves in sheeps clothing", I guess he is right. At times it is difficult to sit across the bar from an Outcast you must kill later on, listening to them rant and rave about the demons that lurk in the asteroids, magically snuffing their friends lifes out. I wonder what thier reaction would be if I told them I was one of the demons within the asteroid fields.

Journal Entry 5- (approximately 14 years ago)

Jasta 13 finally returned to New Berlin. It was a very good feeling to be among the Rheinish peoples again. I spent some time with my father, he seems so proud, even in his decaying health. He asked me what we done, strangely I can not remember. It nags me that the memorys of the past year escape me. I remember being on Malta, remember the places I stayed, ate, some of the people I met... I just cant remember what I was doing there. I asked Hammer, he didnt know either.

My thoughts revert back to the briefing room, where our minds were plugged into the Neural Debriefer. Did our commanders remove that knowledge from our minds? I dont know why they would, I swore an oath of loyalty to Rheinland, I could never betray the Fatherland. You know, my father mentioned that these logs would benifit me. He was wise, tis a shame I havent documented the things I should have. In the future I will be more dilligent documenting what happens, lest they remove such memorys from my mind again....

Journal Entry 6- (approximately 14 years ago)

Things are not as they seem. Commissar Leudast has ordered Jasta 13 to take refuge at Bruschal Base under covert alias' as per our standard operating procedures. What worries me is the fact we are making frequent forays into New Berlin and Halle system fighting our own former comrades in the Rheinland Navy and the Rheinland Guard.

Thus far, Leudast has been a wise commander, we have followed him through many a battle and have always proven to on the side of right. Lately many of us have found the acts we are committing to be very unsettling. Blackbeard confided in me stating his concerns and was thinking about defying orders. After a lengthy talk, we decided it was best to leave the decision making to those above our paygrade. We were selected to join the "elite" for a reason, so we all decided to let it lie.

May God forgive us for slaying our fellow Rheinlanders, and may be be on the side of the just and virtuous.

Jasta 13 Black Ops ship enoute to target in New Berlin

Journal Entry 7- (approximately 13 years, 10 months ago)

Today we had a hard fought battle. After leaving Brushal and entering New Berlin via the Sigmas, we were attacked by a reinforced Rheinland battlegroup. Lately Jasta 13 has been using the Rheinland Navy frequency codes to get the heads up on our opponents. Apparently the leaders of the battlegroup were most of my former foes, the Aristocrats from the Military Academy. For once in my tour, I actually enjoyed the killing. The taste of revenge was sweet. After the battlegroup was destroyed and the survivors routed, I returned to the engagement site, and searched for lifepods, those I found.... I killed, ending thier wretched lives. May they all burn in hell!

After returning to Brushal, Leudast pulled me into his quarters. He informed me that there was a great upheaval going on in Rheinland. He stated examples of depotism, abuse of power by the Chancellors Administration, after much investigation, Jasta spies pieced the puzzle together. What they found was very startling indeed.... another Rheinland government infected at the highest levels by the Nomads.

During the first Nomad War, the Fatherland was extremely embarassed because thier command structure was penitrated by the Nomads. This caused a great war which nearly caused the extinction of the known human race. Thankfully, humanity was saved by a Bretonian *spits* Freelancer named "Trent".

Finally it all made sense, we the members of Jasta 13 were fighting to prevent such humilation from happening again. We were the true patriots and the guardians of Rheinland, not the villians I suspected we might be. This was a much needed relief.

After returning to the team room, I discussed my findings with my comrades, and we all shared a collective sigh of relief.

Tomorrow we head back out, I just recieved the briefing from my wing commander. The Evil Chancellor himself will be heading to his vacation home on Planet Baden Baden. Now is our chance to end his evil regime. I am sure this assassination mission will not set well with the people of Rheinland (even they must not know the reasons why the Chancellor must be slain). But we must do dirty work to keep Fatherland clean and free of tyrants such as the Chancellor, even if we could possibly be branded as brigands and outlaws.
