I have been playing around with the idea of making some sort of an explorer, but the main reason not to do it was that they are so boring to RP. But just a few minutes ago i came up with some sort of solution.

My idea is to make a ghost ship, which moves over the whole of sirius. The ship i had in mind was some sort of battleship, that during a battle or accident lost a fighter or maybe even a whole wing.(i am not going to say just yet how or where). the ship itself disappeared as well, and everyone believed it was lost forever. However, over the years more and more people claim to have seen it flying around. I think you get the point here.

Also in order to "prepare" the server community for the arrival of this new ghost ship, i was thinking of making a wandering storyteller, who would go to crowded systems and tell the story of the ship, long before it will ever appear for the first time (on the server that is). I also have come up with several things it would do to limit myself and the actions my "ghost" would do(more about that later on my special RP request if i continue with this idea).

I am not going to tell more of it, cause then the fun would be out of it. But i think you guys now know enough to help me with the small problem i have. That problem is, what battleship should i use, cause i just can't pick one. I would like one that looks scary, but i mainly need one that is going to be able to move through asteroid fields.

So anyone that can help me with this, or do you have doubts or advice for me, please post it here.

As im sure you know the special RP requests are on hold untill .85 is final.

Other than that, i think it is a good idea, would it be hostile to everyone, or a more traditional explorer?

If you could flesh it out more, it would be very good.

As for which ship, somethng like an osiris, as they move very easily through asteroids, but that would probably be up to what ever faction the ship is from.

Good luck with it, sounds like it could be very good.

yes i am aware, but that doesn't mean that i'm going to wait long before i am going to start telling the story, i hope to do that somewhere within the week, but the ghostship won't come online for a long time, i still need to start saving for it, so that will atleast take a few months to completely rep fix and buy it.

He won't harm anyone, unless they come to close, and with close i mean close, around 500m, so thats point blank range. But that will be explained in the story(i already have the story in my mind, i just need to know what ship i would like to use)

Sounds good, if you write a story, that will make it even better.

I think it is also good that you dont want to do another Mon'Star, i think it could develop into something special.

this is a wonderful idea as it would encourage RP all over sirius, it could be the talked about thing and what not.

i fully support this idea.


edit: lol not to say people dont rp all over siruis BUT this will be another Rp'able concept.

i just hope that with this there won't suddenly be dozens of ghostships, cause that would ruin it totally, both for me and for the general server population i believe, cause there wouldn't be anything special about it anymore.

Okey, right now i also have another small issue that i just came up with. The ID/IFF. I was thinking about guard ID/IFF for whatever faction it's going to be (right now i think the osiris is one of the best ships in this situation, though i'm not sure yet.) but maybe this setup could cause to much trouble with general RP i think, unless i could manage to make sure the majority of the server knows that that ship (like the necrosis) just has that tag because it needs it. Or maybe just the ID and no IFF, that would make it even better (don't know if that is allowed for battleships, to fly around without IFF)

Well, you could rep the ship to get the needed Guard ID, then /droprep it to lose the IFF. So long as you have the ID, you're not breaking any rules, and the special RP request would explain why you weren't wearing an IFF.

EDIT: And there's already another ghost ship, it's a Rhienland cruiser. I'll go look for the thread.

ok, i made up my mind about the ship, it's going to be an osiris. i would just like some opinions about the way i was planning to RP with it, so here goes.

When the ghost enters a system, he will regularly broadcast a search message (something in the line of: "fighter alpha, please come in"), this to announce it presence in the system. when a ship comes within scanner range, I'll use local chat to mimic static, something you might find when flying near a ghost ship. As stated before, the ghost will never engage anyone that stays away from him, be it a starflier or even 10 battleships, as long as it stays beyond 500m, once it gets there, the ghost will fire on him without any warning what so ever. Also when it is taking to much damage, it will turn towards the sun, or the nearest planet, and crash straight in it (it's supposed to be a ghost, so in RP it doesn't get destroyed). However after it's "destruction" it will almost immediately return into the system that it was destroyed in, and there it will fly exactly the same route it did before (so cap spammers will always know where it will pass and if they want shoot on it)

now to limit myself more (to prevent it from turning into powerplay and to compensate for the fact that i will be ignoring the PVP rules) the ghost will never fly closer than 2k to any base, or more than 1K to a tradelane or gate. It will also only use jumpholes to move around. the only time it will get closer to a base is to dock with it so i can safely log out, but I'll try to do this with bases that have no players around, to prevent confusion. Also because the ghost disappeared after an intense battle (will be explained in the story I'll write) it will have sustained heavy damage, so it will fly around with hull damage (i was thinking somewhere around the lines of 60% of its hull remaining.) and it won't have all it's turret slots filled up (i was thinking of leaving 3 or 4 turrets off)

So I'd like to know what you guys think of it, do you think this could get approved for special RP?

Maybe you could occasionaly have a "ghostly" escort fighter? heh... now it occured to me... it would be great if it could be translucent! And how about going with just Vanilla weapons and equipment? In the spirit of oldness? Or maybe that's too much? Can't wait to see/read the story!

Why does it need to be a battleship? Honestly, you'll probably get very aggravated flying through asteroid fields to get to jump holes in a battleship. Why not a fighter or gunboat or freighter even?
