Ventana, try not to name names.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

I can't really see what power amounts to in Discovery.

Real power would be the power to change the relationships between npc factions in-game, which is unfair on new players or on players who don't visit of can't make sense of the endless web of diplomatic ties in place. Even then, a power like that can upset the whole background to the game.

Real power would be the power to limit access to ships and equipment, but there is no real justification for doing this as a matter of policy without causing unnecessary rifts in the community. In any case, if someone is abusing a ship, there is the route of sanctions or a group of players can RP a justification for destroying the person's ship until they get the point.

There is a perception that official factions boss people around. Which is only partly true. Being here longer means people feel they have invested more in Discovery. Running a faction takes a lot of time. You have to try to be everyone to everybody.

One thing we need to clear up this: Are we talking about power in-game or power in the forums?

I have a few more thoughts about this which I'll post later. Work calls.

On the faction creation process, and these are just from brainstorming:

250 mil up front to post a description of your faction which is open to feedback. This allows you to advertise in the employment office and create a msg dump in the factions section.

250 mil more when you want it to be considered for official status, after three months being unoffical, with the same requirements regarding members, time on server, etc. Once you are approved, you get the regular official threads (i.e. the faction recruitment forum, the message dump, a feedback thread)

500 mil more when you want to buy the guard system of the npc faction you represent. This gives you full rights to the system, up to and including the right to control accesss to anything sold there.

The only official faction proposals should be for the npc factions that exist already in game. Official factions should represent the npc faction. There should be only one official faction for a npc faction.

edit: Don't know if I'm sure about any of these.

I don't know if there is a ship with this name. I just used this identification to show the general behaviour of many independents: run endless trade runs with a silent trader and then they buy some capital ship, which only high ranked faction members use and behave as they are the kings and needn't take care of anybody.

It's a completely other thing with the factions: you enter as a low ranked member, but with a good RP and discipline you will receive more rights.

Don't get this wrong, there are good independent RPers out there, but the bulk of indies are capwhoring lolwutters.

That could be problematic, I don't see the reason why an indie could be restricted from buying a SNAC in the guard system of their faction when they're properly repped.

[RSS] tag is used in-game.

Anyway, I am generally silent when I trade, it is boring and with the current system a lot more of it is needed to get anywhere. I barely run into pirates due to experience and I trade usually to buy some capital ship. I also give myself a fancy title like "Captain", or if I want further control "Admiral", when I fly said ship. I do not behave like a king however.

Your post sounds more like "independents are stealing my power" more than "we need to stop idiots ruining people's fun" so I am hardly inclined to agree with it.

Edit: Just for the record, I have never seen an independent, ever, type out the word "lolwut". I have seen it however in factionalised group chats, sometimes without the // before it.

What do you suggest we do about "duplicates" that already exist, I doubt they'd be willing to merge.

All the relataionships between your faction and the other factions should remain on the official faction's hands. Indies obeying orders.... it's common sense, if you are new, listen to the older faction players.
The problem goes to the capital ships, which make people think they are untouchables, and that it gives them the right to do whatever they want.

If my posts did sound like that, I apologize. It was not my concern that they maybe steal my 'power', but stealing my fun by acting like they invented the bulb.

I would appreciate independent ships, which are playing with my characters, as I'm here to have fun. I thought my attitude is reflected by the factions I'm in actually. Do you think ALG will ever have the 'power' to control a system or areas? I guess not. It's nearly a pure trading faction, but I choose it to act with others and not to control them.

If it was my wish to actively control other players, I'd join some faction which tends to attract PVP players. (I better avoid naming them here.) And this should be one of the most important points when it comes to faction creation: Is the faction for playing with others or for ruling their game?
