What would be the best way to store a few guns that you do want to keep, but do want discard for the moment, without carrying them around in your cargo bay getting pirated by everyone just for kicks...

Setup a storage char and ask other player to help you with the needed equipment transfer
simple as that.

Class SD13:
A safety deposit account. For a fee of 1mil per week (with the first week paid in advance), clients can have us store their weapons and equipment safely. Any amount of items may be deposited or withdrawn at any time given that an appointment is made ahead of time, but may not withdraw all items until their debts are paid. If no items reside in a client's SD13 account it will be closed immediately, but may be reopened at any time for no extra charge. If a client doesn't pay any portion of their fees (minimum of a 500k payment) for 3 weeks in a row, they will forfeit all items to Leviathan Bankers.

Another way would be to make a character and send the goods to him to hold.

Is there a command for sending equipment?

Dont think so. Most storage ships I see use Liners like the Royal liner and Lux liner. They also (wisely) stick near bases in case of emergancys. Storage ships are quite similar to dealers really, apart from the fact that they dont sell anything.
