I've noticed that the current death messages aren't really RP, since they basically in RP kill player's character. For example:

"Player" sadly shot themselves in the head.
"Player 1" was killed by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)

So wouldn't it be better to change them to something like:

"Player" suffered a ship-wide malfunction and was forced to eject.
"Player" had a malfunction in their ejecting system.
"Player 1" was forced to eject by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)
"Player 1" was forced to eject because their ship was destroyed by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)

Or something like that.

Any opinions?

I don't understand how "xxx sadly shot themselves in the head" is better than "xxx has commited suicide"

And yes I agree with Tic, those are good suggestions.

Because some characters are female and some are male. So female chars would get "him, himself" or male "her, herself".

That one works really well, I like it. The suicide message has always really annoyed me. Just maybe alter the wording to "xxxx suffered a ship-wide malfunction and was forced to eject.

Funnily enough, it had never occurred to me that the death messages were wrong until you pointed it out. It does seem wrong. It's harder to get the right message on that one though, as there's a mixture of character and ship names used. Maybe using destroyed in place of "forced to eject" would work better.

For a suicide:

"<Player> made a crucial navigation error"

We should still keep them humorous, IMO.

Yeh but 'destroyed' would again lead some people to think it has a same meaning like 'killed'.

And the "Player" suffered a ship-wide malfunction and was forced to eject." really does sound better.

Added this one too;

"Player 1" was forced to eject because their ship was destroyed by "Player 2". (Gun, Mine...)

We could end up with something like

"player1 lost the fight against player2. The ship was destroyed (mine, missile etc.), but no parties were injured during the encounter."
