Colonial Mining Vessel Emerald Melody, Captain Saul Elias
After 30 days in the Orinoko cloud, the bulky mining ship emerges like a great forest beast.
Corrosion from alien organisms has given the vessel a sickening tinge that mocks the romantic
name it was given yahrens ago on Aerelon.
Though her captain had not been Melody's first owner, Elias had been given the ship history
by a scruffy dealer in the Tauron mining colonies. Being from Aerelon himself the retired
naval commander had fealt an immediate affinity for the stout vessel and purchased it.
That was a long time ago.. he thought to himself.
Before the second cylon war. Before the Exodus. Before the tragic discovery of Earth. Before rebirth
it seemed.
Back to business. Melody had extracted enough alien organisms to keep the rag tag fleet hauling 24/7
for another 60 days, and his crew was due for some shore leave.
"Start nav calculations for Baden Baden."
Whoops and chears were heard throughout the ship as the news was spread. It was going to be a great
30 days in paradise.
"Sir, we have a contact at 10000 km."
"Can you get a make on it?"
"Negative, it looks like its in close solar orbit, too much radiation to get a fix at this range."
"Ahh perhaps its one of those Zoner survey teams, though why they would be so close to the sun, I don't
know. Send a hail, see if they need assistance."
...
"No responce. Their orbit is decaying, they'll be inside the corona in 12 hours."
"Alter course to intercept and continue hailing."
As Emerald Melody closed the distance large chunks of dead alien organisms began sluffing off the hull,
cooking off in the heat of the sun.
To any other observer, the cruising miner looked like a great green Beast hurling towards the sun...
