You've got to remember that not all unlawfuls are pirates. The only true pirate factions are the Liberty Rogues and the Gallic Brigands (Lane Hackers are in a bit of a grey area, I think). Everyone else is fighting for a purpose against another faction, the Blood Dragons are fighting the Kusari Naval Forces, Mollys against the BAF, and pretty much every unlawful in Rhienland is fighting against the Government. Hessians are also fighting the Corsairs, who have a large capital fleet, and the Corsairs and Outcasts are fighting each other. In Gallia, no one knows who the good guys and bad guys are.

So when you think "All unlawfuls are pirates" you're thinking wrong. Many unlawfuls don't even consider themselves unlawful, and consider the local law to be unlawful, such as the Xenos and Blood Dragons. Freelancer is a little more complex that Cowboys and Indians.

So the only real Pirate Cruiser is the Liberty Rogues Destroyer, which is primarily for defense of Cassini and for use by the Mollys struggle for Dublin. It was only commissioned due to the inevitable decommission of the RM-1, which was previously used for point-defense.

I protest.

Not because I want to be a capwhore (well partly that and I have a great RP story for a bd battleship)

But yes. The blood dragons are apparantly meant to be a rising force in Kusari (from my point of view). Asking why the BD have battleships is like asking why the council have battleships... because apart from the naval forces, the BD are a rising movement, with their movement growing stronger due to the war with bretonia. They do need a few capships at least.

Not that i've ever seen a bd battleship in space of course...

Its only for the battleship afaik and i think there will be a compromise to take it from the market, but having it to purchase via admin approval. There is a certain reason for. We had a big dispute about this battleship before it was introduced in 4.84. At this time we got a kind of common sense, that only a very small number of them, 2 at a maximum, should ever exist among all Dragon players, plus the one, which was given to the Mandalore Mercennaries by NovaPG in a rp manner. Also at this time NovaPG was very strong and could limit the numbers. Well, recent reports indicate a higher number of them to be used by independents. This had the effect of spoiling the balance trials by Kusari based player factions to keep the number of used battleships as low as possible.
I see absolutely no reason to remove the strike cruiser, whose forward gun is meant to take on the huge KNF battleships.

Well to be honest since all I heard were rumors, I didn't understand the logic behind taking away BD caps, but that post makes perfect sense. Thanks AoM.

And I agree, the battleship should be extremely rare. The BD just don't have the resources to keep very many of them up and running.

I'd make it so the Blood Dragon battleship is not open to players. The Blood Dragons are a faction of people who are very good at whatever they do, their capital ship captains would be the best of the best. No one can fly it well enough to do that title justice, also the fact I think there should only be one, a dockable ship, that sits guarding the Dragon core bases, i.e. Kyoto and Mito ( for now). If there -had- to be two, I would have a single admin-granted Togo, which would have a clause that it is used rarely, maybe an "only for defence" thing too.

As for the Spyglass... I never really saw the use in it at all... Leave one dockable in the guard system but ditch the rest. Hessians would have... if you took it that the Blood Dragons have 1, the Hessians have 3 or 4?

This is my signature.

Privateers and pirates are two ENTIRELY different things. Here is the difference:

Pirates are independents.

Privateers are funded by the navy.

Make sense?

Not true.

Privateers were often independent ships, given a license to rob people.

They were usually told that their pay was anything they could steal.

They were pirates. The only difference between a privateer and a pirate is who they are robbing. The Spanish would hang English privateers for piracy with their Letters of Marque tied around their necks. Hell, the English often hanged their own privateers, since they often had a habit of robbing neutral/friendly vessels when they ran low on cash/got bored.

Also, Blackbeard's 'Queen Anne's Revenge' had more guns than frigates, being nearly as heavily armed as a ship of the line.

Actually, that should be the other way around. You can pirate, game mechanics allow it, but 1) we're not wasting what fuel we have to pirate in bomber fodder and 2) Admins have forbidden it.

Anyway, the caps...
Rogues and Mollies constructed the Scylla primarily for the Mollies.
The BD stole the plans for that Battleship, and they rarely use it.
Hessians have their caps to fight off the Corsairs.
Gaians and the AFA made a gunboat to supplement their firepower.
Outcasts and Corsairs have their caps to kill each other in the Omicrons.

A way a lone a last a loved a long the riverrun, past Eve and Adam's, from swerve of shore to bend of bay,
brings us by a commodius vicus of recirculation back to Howth Castle and Environs.

Hessians use caps to fend off RNC as well. We get a few in Dresden and NB who hunt us.
