This is NOT about just removing hull upgrades. This is about removing hull upgrades AND boosting ALL ship's armors by multiplying it with 2.5 - essentially integrating the hull upgrade into all ships with no price attached.

Should fighter/bomber/GB hull upgrades be removed?
Every Fighter, Bomber or GB on this server that isn't currently being set up, subject to trial/recruit rules or belongs to a completely new player has a Mk8 hull upgrade mounted. It's expensive, especially for new players, and it's only purpose seems to be to raise the price of a combat-proof ship. Wouldn't it be a good idea to remove the upgrades and to just multiply all ship's armor upgrades with 2.5?

Should capship hull upgrades be removed?
It's quite similar with caps, with the only difference being some cruisers who prefer to mount Mk7 or Mk6 hull upgrades because the Mk8 upgrade is quite expensive. Should capship hull upgrades be removed as well?

Should hull upgrades stay but instead carry a significant disadvantage for the people mounting them?
Currently, players do not have much of a choice regarding hull upgrades. They just buy the one that reinforces their armor the most. Maybe we could keep hull upgrades, but attach a significant disadvantage to them? I don't know what can be done and what not (my knowledge of FL modding is pretty much restricted to system making), but I'm sure you can think of something that could be done.

I always thought that armor upgrades should have some kind of tradeoff. Im some mods , I think it reduced the agility of the ship. Thing is , in said mods , there were other things besides armor upgrades to put in those slots. If we arent gonna get all those other things, I really cant see a reason for them to stay , since we really dont have a choice. However , I guess it would be a total pain to tweak everything to fit that ...

My thoughts:

There was a big long thread about just reducing the price. For some reason the devs won't explain to me why a fully kitted out VHF has to cost 30 mil + .. so I don't know how well this idea will fare.

On the other hand, it'd be better for the newbies to fly shps with more base armor, so they don't get gibbed quite so much by an emotionally unstable NPC somewhere down the line.

The concept of equipping an armor upgrade like a weapon is rather silly. This idea does make more 'realistic' sense, which I support.

There have been many discussions about armor upgrades, I do think that something needs to change about them, but changing a crucial PvP item is quite difficult on our RP server for some reason.

To conclude, there are a few options available here. I prefer the 'remove' option.

What I don't want to see is VHFs at shipdealers priced around 30 million credits, if this were to be implemented.

Again this stuff heh? I think that thanks to armor upgrades, the PvP fights are long, what is good, at least from my point of view. I voted to let them be.

Guys, I think some of you are missing the point. There's a reason why I wrote a nice "READ BEFORE YOU VOTE" up there. This isn't about just removing hull upgrades, it's about removing hull upgrades AND multiplying all ship's armor values by 2.5 - essentially integrating the hull upgrade into the ship with no additional price.

I'd be totally for removing fighter and bomber upgrades and integrating them in.
However, I do not want their full price to be integrated as well. 'Cause frankly, I think that fighters and bombers, especially fighters, need to be cheaper to set up than they currently are.

But as for capital ship armor.. it'd be tough to take away their armors, because it'd make them too expensive. Because you see, some people might want to get a capital ship, but can't afford the armor, and they'd not be able to get the ship they want.
To some, armor rating might not matter that much.

Anyways, my vote is:

On removing fighter and bomber armor upgrades and integrating them. YES.
But not making fighters cost 30 and bombers 40 million. >.<

When it comes to capital ship hulls, I'd not remove them. When it comes to those, not everyone does have the best upgrade, so it is a choice. However, I'd set some kind of downside. The harder the armor, the slower the ship. Now be it in agility or impulse speed, that's for the balancing team to figure out.

Edit: And I recommend taking what's said in posts into consideration, not the vote number. Because frankly, seems some people are too eager and well.. let's say "not smart", so they vote before knowing what they're voting for.

I think on removing fighter armour, a big NO, however, adding some disadvantage to armours (decreasing agility etc) would be an almost perfect solution, as they would be more balenced for the cost.

On cap armour, another NO, also, i think this has been discussed in almost every balence thread made in the last few weeks, it is simply not a good idea no matter what angle you come at it.

Unless you find a way of making armours reduce agility, or have some other adverse effect, i think the answer will be a resounding NO.

Well, the loadout you mention is perfect for PVP... however, if you intend to Role-play for instance, a poor pirate, than you need the ability to mount the less expensive, and by that, the lower grade armor. Most people don't do that, and then you end up with the situation that everyone has the best armor, best guns etc... By removing armor types all together, I think we would just give more steam to the PVP for the sake of PVP... instead of it being just a part of RP

Does this really need to be changed? As far as I'm concerend the system works well.

Besides, you can't remove an item from the game. Causes problems for anyone who has the item in their possession. Considering nearly every ship has one... player wipe, anyone?

You definitly have a point here Nath. I still voted 3 times with NO. Better find ingame RP solutions by restricting in a logical manner who can when use what kind of AU, but.... this idea/poll/discussion have already been shot down.

This community is guarding their AU's/Codename guns with a ridicilous jealousy...

Anyways... to the topic:

Multiplier the basic hull of all ships by 2.0.
Lets still have like 3 different kinds of AU's for Fighter and like 3 different kinds of AU's for capitol ships classes.

Fighter AU Mk1 : x1.5 (final is x3 basic hull) (5 cargo) - can be mounted by Fighters/Bombers/Freighters
Fighter AU Mk2 : x2.0 (final is x4 basic hull) (10 cargo)
Fighter AU Mk3 : x2.5 (final is x5 basic hull) (15 cargo)

Capitol AU Mk1 : x2.0 (final is x4 basic hull) (100 cargo)- can be mounted by capitol warships
Capitol AU Mk2 : x2.5 (final is x5 basic hull) (150 cargo)
Capitol AU Mk3 : x3.0 (final is x6 basic hull) (200 cargo)

Lets also have...

Trader AU : x2.0 (final is x4 basic hull) (50 cargo)- can just be mounted by Transports/Liners

That is it.
