I'm glad. Very glad indeed.
I'd like to ask a question: Since Guard systems are supposedly a 'right' of an official faction, why don't House corporations have them? I mean, I admit it likely wouldn't make much sense, but everyone else gets them, no matter how small their faction or how little sense it makes, and they can mostly do whatever they like with them. But, maybe Cryer needs a whole system full of superpowered Cryer defense fighters to use as a top-secret research facility? Or I'm sure BMM could use a giant field of niobium all to itself, and at least if they had a giant shipyard in their system it would make sense. If everyone gets a Guard system, then everyone should get a Guard system.

So first you say you want guard systems that are integrated into the disco universe and reasonable, then you say, if some people have a guard system, everyone has to have one, even if it goes against what you said you wanted previously? Well, here is your mistake, a house corperation can buy a system, even if they do not have an npc guard system, perfect examples would be KOF and IND, who have both purchased, or are in the process of purchasing systems that are not guard systems. So a corporation faction still has the ability to purchase a system. So there is no problem with your concern. But no, I dont belive Corperations should have guard systems added to the game for them.

It was more a hypothetical question to the people who want their Guard systems, even if they don't make sense. Though, oddly enough, most of the people who've posted here vehemently against my proposals have been part of factions who it actually makes some sense to have a Guard system.
I don't think corporations should get Guard systems, in general.
But, my question remains: If every other faction, no matter how small, gets a Guard system, why don't the House corporations?
The question is; how do these systems exist? How is it possible to have an entire system that is populated by exactly one faction?
Look at the current guard systems: house pirate guard systems...why have they not been assaulted by, at the very least, Bounty Hunters? What about the Rogue guard system? Complete with shipyard...wouldn't it be likely that Liberty would take action against that? Possibly with the assistance of Kusari, given it's location. GC guard, complete with shipyard (again), and some cardi-growing project or somesuch, why has Kusari not deployed a massive assault to take it out? Not to mention the faction-ending system that is Londonderry (hey, guys, we don't need the gold in Dublin, any more, we got an entire system full, here...).
As for the lawful ones, top security prison? How about a prison break, then? Sure, might not be successful, but it's highly likely that they'l give it a try. Top secret research? Someone's going to want to know about it...
Consider this: If the Liberty Navy has sufficient resources to completely lock down Virginia to the extent that no pirates or undesirables can enter, why do they not re-deploy that force to New York, y'know, the capital system of their nation, where millions of people live, the kind of place that you want to have the most security possible...
From a gameplay perspective, what precisely occurs within guard systems? I have only ever used them for 3 things: equipping, training and killing trespassers. Great interactions there, aye?
A "paradise" system is contradictory to the very existence of most factions, seeing as they can just withdraw into it and not have to worry about external conflicts ever again...
I'm not fond of guard systems myself. I think they clutter the landscape, add a ton more problems than they're worth and generally detract from sanity.
The idea of guard systems could be easily supplemented with guard rep bases, so far as equipment goes, placed within common or systems added with a purpose in mind, as opposed to simply plastered in to provide a random spot for lulz.
Short post, but to the point. I loath them.
Yes, I have one which I spent about 1.5 billion on, ultimately out of my own pocket and I am extremely pleased to have it. Yet my position stands.
There is merit in having a system that factions can mod. Perhaps some need a little more quality control...
Some Guard systems like Baffin for the TAZ form an integral part of certain trade runs - others are dead ends.
Perhaps what is needed is a discussion on what people expect from guard systems?
If you paid for the system you should do as YOU wish with it. You paid for it, it is yours. To have anyone else put anything they want in it is ludicrous. If that is what you want then reimburse them for everything, but do not hold you breath because you are going to asphyxiate before they give it up.
The argument that it is like anyother Fort in the real world is a valid one. You do not just get in without the proper id/clearance. However, if you are BARELY even neutral you can get in. I ask you, does that make since? If it is suppose to be this tight/high secuirty system? I do not believe so. My proposal should be you should be FULLY green and able to buy the appropriate ID before you are allowed in. What does that mean, it means that you will be blasted to kingdom come if you aren't. Is that possible to do here, I doubt it. But if you are trying to restrict access I think you should have to do more than bribes and missions until you become neutral. Don't you think?
I like the idea of bringing in a commodity that that system is in dire need of is a great idea, but how do you do allow that without someone manning the door to keep people out? There is hardly ANYONE in ANY of the guard systems. No one is manning the store so to speak. Remember you only need to be nuetral (barely) and anyone can get in, right?
I also agree that there are too many guard systems and it does not make sense for them. As some have posted like the LWB, Bunds, as examples. On the other hand, (and this is off topic) I believe there are far to many systems period. I would say the average number player per day is around 150. There are 144 systems and that equates to just over 1 system for every player. You can fly thru some systems and not see anyone. Heck, for that matter you can practically fly thru Bretonia and not see anyone. But this is beside the point.
If people paid for their system then leave them alone. Maybe take the other guard systems and fix them. Or not because then you will have more systems that NOBODY goes into.
Sorry, but I forgot to comment on one more thing in my little diatribe.
It is not true that you can buy the weapons that are in guard systems in other systems. You cannot buy Reapers (Class 9) (the other weps escapes my memory) in anyplace other than 100. Correct me if I am wrong.
I would think that is true in most of Sirius is it not?
Also, does it make any sense to be able to purchase the ship (gb, cruiser etc) but not be able to buy the weps to go along with it? Ex. Order gb but you cannot purchase Order turrets.
Ok, third post in a row. I cannot seem to let it go or maybe I just think of something else to say after reading Drake.
Here is the thing. I have noticed that this is something that happens alot in this community and it is this.
Somebody has something (ship, system, etc) and somebody else wants to take it away or improve it for the other person all the while hiding behind RP or wanting to make it better for RP.
The question is: Better for whom? You who wish to make the change? Or for the person in this case that purchase the system?
I would think that those who took the time to earn the money, to design their system, and put forth the effort in obtaining the system (faction proposals) should have THEIR system the way they want it without interference from those who have not put forth any effort to get their own.
You want access to their system by maybe bringing a commodity they need. I propose this: Make it so that everytime someone buys or sells at a base in their system that factions gets a percentage. That should get the ball rolling. But wait. That is not what the system is for, is it?
