For the skeptical, be at ease. The relevant factions knew this already, and the dev team has been making sure that everyone still has stuff to do. Even if your faction "loses" you as a player don't.
Plus, it's fun to play the underdog. It's the entire appeal of the Maquis and the Bundschuh.
GRN is an ill-conceived thought created by decadent individuals who could no longer improve on Vanilla and thus decided to break the spine of Freelancer over their knees.

My two Maltese cents.
I think it adds quite a bit of excitement to things that begin to get stale after so long. Maybe its being done in a monstrous way but we haven't heard the whole story yet. For all we know, Liberty could come swooping down on the flank and turn the tide.

A bit harsh don't you think?
Vanilla had to change one day.. I am pretty sure some would left if there was no change.. I know that only thing that's keeping me still here is new version.
And changes are good, 98% of them.
Edit: And still.. this is more of expanding vanilla then changing.

I believe it has been stated on a number of occasions that there is no possibility of the story evolving to a point where the GRN forces over extend themselves with territory being wrenched back, their fleets broken and things returned to a place where everyone can pat themselves on the back and +1 base counts with each mod release.
I, for one, greatly welcome the storyline evolution. It seems I can't remember a time where things weren't as they currently are.

It's not harsh considering that the words "Gallic" and "Balance" were overlooked.
Change is fun when it's reasonably implemented, but as it stands now it's just a bunch of people protected by plot armour taking a stab at Bretonia who is already suffering quite a bit. Here's a though: Why not Kusari?
