the drone retreats if it detects the subject is powering up its guns (using RP when the person shows discomfort at my presence) im not like some douches on the server that would stay there all day whether you liked it or not just because you cant hit me, because i can imagine how goddamn annoying that would be.

i close in to a ship, make them aware an image or video is being taken (using RP)

Me: ::Intrigue level, maximum. target... Zoner Juggernaught. ship class.. Mothership. Begining survielance::

(i begin to circle the ship, taking images as i go)

juggernaught: foriegn automation detected, powering weapons

Me: ::target alerted. threat level, above rank 10. retreating to safe distance::

(I leave the area)

its that simple, is that so awful?

The ship infocard says that it exists outside of RP. You should not be using that ship to interact with other players in any way besides OOC private messages.

As for why people don't want you around, you could be a spy for the local lawfuls/unlawfuls and you could be feeding them information about where ships are currently. Info like this is very useful and using a camera ship to gain it is against the rules.

The camera ship is unfair in a roleplaying environment as an annoying one is practically impossible to get rid of. It's super fast and has an impossible-to-hit hitbox. If you wanted to get one out of your guard system, or your face, then you couldn't get it away by shooting. We all know that RP fails to work on some players as well.

Nice in theory. But the majority of players in Disco are too immature to actually use it responsibly.
A few bad apples spoil the barrel etc concept.
That's been the way for lots of times and concepts.
There are more rules now, because people haven't been able to control THEMSELVES, so
the response is more rules. Exactly what they ask for, but not the intended result.

is this really true that a camera ship cannot RP? i wanted to be a sort of survielance drone taking screens of cool stuff and fraps vids of other stuff, yet i dont want to have to be silent while I do that

Since the main topic - the rules around the ship - has already been addressed, I'd like to chime in with some suggestions.

A Starblazer, flown carefully, is very capable of protecting itself. I've heard stories of them taking out Guardians. Weak, but very agile and small. Plus, it's cheap as hell and most people ignore it if it's not harassing them anyway.

An Arrow is also a good choice. Larger, but with slightly better armor and even more ridiculous turning. It's commonly used as a scout ship or courier, and fits the role well.

The Griffin may be too large for the armor increase over the 'blazer and Arrow to be worthwhile, but it's the other Civilian LF of note.


If the ship model's getting in the way of your filming, you can always enter cockpit view. Ctrl+V by default, if I remember right.

What is it? A thruster, shield and CM flying through space at amazing speeds? If anyone could build ships like that they would.

When I had an independent unlawful in Liberty I'd frequently see Camera ships with civilian IDs with names like "Navy.Drone", then LABCs coming in behind them when they'd found something.

Because of little abuses like this I am all for further regulating its use.

The few people who use camera ships (including myself) use it primarily for capturing images without the interference of your own ship model, or for taking videos of fights/events that occur on the server. some people (including me, in this case, if you see this image heavy thread) use it with bits of RP thrown in, because flying around sirius in a camera ship with 0 interaction is not at all fun. normally, people would like NOT to see camera ships, due to the abuse of said ship in the past by a few. as hyung stated, a few bad apples ruin the barrel.

well to be honest im not the kind of person to abuse somthing apart from maybe the no bad language rule when i get annoyed and one slips out.

but i imagined my camera ship to be like that drone in starwars that luke practices against in A New Hope, just a little cheeky drone like that, only with a voice.

if i wanted to know where sombody was, id just look at the chat list.. its hard not to abuse that, stick close to your friends, and even closer to your enemies. i.e. if you know the names of your enemies you can weed them out anyway. no need for a camera ship.

but i must admit, that RP doesnt work on alot of people, and the camera ship ISNT as hard to hit as you think, the ai gives me a run for my money somtimes, if i was circling sombody taking pics, they could kill me in an instant if they wanted.

actually, its practically impossible to hit a dodging camera ship, as ive proven enough times, and the last time being in a duel against a BH bs with a wager of 50 mill (if he managed to deshield me once in 15 minutes, i pay him 50 mill. if not, i get paid. easy 50 mill i made even though this was early 4.84 when the threat of a sanction looming over your head wasnt as bad as it is now.)
