Engagement Notice

i just ran into a little circumstance. long story short.

one ship commanded a battleship and a gunboat to attack my battleship.

the commanding officer is the only one who gave the order, and niether one of the attacking ships gave ANY kind of engagement notice.


they were ordered to "Take Him Down" by someone else.

Then they simply opened fire without a word from them.
allowed or not allowed?

is another character allow to give an engagement notice for someone else?

Since the point of an engagement notice is to make you aware of incoming pewpews I would think that is acceptable. However, it might be nice if they at least responded with something like "Yes sir, engaging target," or "Carrying out your orders, sir." Just for roleplay sake anyway.

well thats what i thought. they should have said something.

the ships that shot my battleship were in an Osirus and Gunboat.
they took commands from someone in a Bomber i believe.

the bomber said "take him down" and the battleship and gunboat opened fire without saying a word.

i would expect:
1) the battleship isnt the one taking orders from the bomber, and roles be reversed.
2) the battleship could have said SOMETHING in RP.
3) the gunboat could have said something in RP.
4) ANY kind of engagement notice from such a formidable capital ship. i think capships should be subject to more and better RP.

Let this be a reminder to people BATTLESHIPS ARE COMMAND POSTS! They often contain a fleet ADMIRAL. A bomber pilot commanding a battleship and a gunboat is just ludicrous, however, I don't think any rules were broken here.

If it had become plainly obvious that they were moving to attack and the command had been given (even if it's rather odd for a bomber pilot to be giving orders to the commander of a capital ship), then I think that they were keeping to the spirit of the rule, and for you to press the matter further wouldn't be any fun for anyone. Though since you were saying 'getting screens', I doubt there's any good me saying that.

yeah, i am not looking to seriously press the matter.
but, if i need to, i am prepared to do so.

but i did talk to the guy, and he apologized. he did seem very apathetic to the situation, but at least he did say he was sorry.

i still didnt fire a single shot though, because they took me by surprise and i wouldnt have stood a chance by the time my shields and hull were so far down. i was expecting some form of RP from them, and i didnt get anything at all. so i just sat there and let them do what they would. and collected my screens if i needed them.

i wish this rule wasnt so gray. to me, if a person is going to engage, especially in a capship, there should be some word from them. not just the orders from someone else. who am i to judge whether or not they want to carry out those orders. especially coming from a bomber!

Ah, sorry, I only glanced at the screenshot and it looked at first as if you were shooting back. My bad - some of those shots were just really close to what I thought was a turret.

Still, as folks said above, it really doesn't make sense for a bomber to give commands to a capital ship. Heck, even Jedi in Star Wars don't and likely can't do that when they're in their wee fighters, and they're superhuman!

as Order|Shadow gave the Order to engage then there is no rules broken here.

well maybe it isnt against the rules for each individual player to give an engagement notice, but shouldn't a capital ship be subject to some kind of RP before engaging? i can understand a newb in pennsylvania shooting without engagement notice, but an order battleship? he should have said something. especially taking orders from a bomber! i'm not trying to report him or anything, like i said. he did apologize.
