While i agree with the idea, its great really. I think it needs a little rethink or rework so it would avoid punishing the random disconnecters.
Maybe if you reconnect with your ship in 2-3mins then you wouldn't lose your cargo or something.
Another thought, many of us carry goods for rp reasons.
What about a making the ships able to "mount" 10 percent of their cargo holds which would not be lost if you disconnect.
Or if the 10percent doesn't work try it with fixed numbers.

Sorry Cannon but this is not a good idea.

I had in the last weeks occasional disconnections after a long red-lag-sign period over and over again.
And this with a very stable, high speed internet connection.
Unless the stability of the server is enhanced this will cause unfair punishments.

In fact, we already have the one minute drifting when F1ing, that is more than enough. If you have a bomber, and a trader is logging in your face. You have enough time to blow it up.

HOWEVER, I could suggest we alter the plug-in, to remove its negative effect. Just make it pop a msg in local chat at the instant the player does a F1 (so the players around him will know that the he's F1ing and will have one minute TO DO THE JOB BY THEMSELVES, like it should always have been.)

By just adding a console message telling that this specific player is F1:ing is however a great idea. Due to two reasons:

1. It will be so much easier to prove someone is F1:ing for sanction report purposes.

2. In fights people will recognize that this specific player is currently F1:ing , and almost 99% of the time in a battle, that is due to lag. Players are then automatically informed and if they are good-sports they won't attack that player.

This occurs to me to sound much like Xoria's last proposal, except, of course, not a threat of rules, but rather something we cannot avoid. Today, I crashed, twice, with 5000 units of cargo. This cargo, I bought for between 4 and 10 million credits. I did not once F1, and I was flying in convoy. This convoy flys through incredibly hostile space (Gamma). My convoy cannot stay in one place for a minute while I wait, or three while I struggle to log back in.

I, personally, encountered a pilot, F1ing in space, this morning. He F1end, I flew through a lane, and the npcs dropped me. Should he lose his cargo?

I pirate. If 60 seconds, if 30 seconds of nonresponsive traders or fighters is not enough to kill it, or force a reply, then the pirate fails.

The current policy is fine. Or increase the time limit. Losing one's cargo is -not- ok.

Or reimburse me. Double my loss, or something.
I -do not- deserve to be victimised because someone else is breaking rules, none of us do.

This creates a defacto rule. Don't log out near Jump holes. Don't log out near Gates. Don't log out near Tradelanes, or traderoutes. Don't log out where someone might be nearby, or pass you. Its not fair. Hell, a trader who F1s in piracy should lose his cargo, if the pirate is at all any good. Log off only on bases, people. Xoria had a social experiment. Apparently it had more than a little admin backing.

This is a MUCH better solution.

And to make the point: I have a barge now with 90% of its hull gone and almost lost 15,000 commodities from it gathered from all over Sirius--as in over 1k of Wild taken in missions at Yanagi, several hundred Nomads, etc. Also lost three Delusions, a Twilight and Excalibur along with Mk VIII fighter armor, Nuclear mine and munitions, Inferno and several other pieces of gear due to a lag out (which I do not have often but occasionally).

What server rules did I break to get this? None. Too bad for me I guess.

I applaud the intention and admire your creativity in ideas Cannon but this is a pound of medicine for an ounce of disease.

The problem is that a program cannot see the difference between f1ing and disconnects, whatever idea we come up with i think more players will be punished innocently cos of the bad connections than those who really deserve it for f1ing.

How does it work when you F1 now? Could you have it so that you stayed there for a couple of minutes, so that pirates you F1'd on could shoot you up and steal your cargo at least?

Quote:I don't care if 90% of the community were rule-breaking F1'ers.

Why should I be innocently punished because those people decide to break a rule?

The system has worked as it has been up to this point. I don't understand why such a radical change is needed, is there an F1 epidemic or what?

Too many scenarios where innocent people can be punished harshly. That is why I disagree with this.
That is a [color=#FFFF66]VERY good question.
See here for some support to your question.
And here for a potential answer.

I feel the need to point out that if this happens, the only thing this will create is victims.
