Ok, what if we could arbitrarily assign specific ships different cruise speeds? What if we could make thrusters that have different speed bonuses? Imagine the possibilities such as...
  1. Blockade Runners
  2. Interceptors
  3. Strike Craft
  4. Scout Fighters
I found a way to make it doable. The speed mod affects the multiplayer server since this game is so client oriented. Therefore, what if we made a script that detected what ship you were flying and modded the Discovery installation to give it that speed (yes this MAY need a restart of the client when selecting/switching characters + upgrading these new engine parts)?

I blockade run as it is.

If anything we need a blockade runner ID, which allows you to fly a 5000 cargo ship but only between houses at war.

Anything I say is not intended as offensive, and to try and deliberately misinterpret it as such would be an attempt at trolling via misrepresentation.

It's not a conspiracy, it's localised bias. They're not intelligent enough to form a conspiracy.

how do you get a program to launch WITH freelancer at startup? Im working on a program that locates what character the player selects and notes their ship using Optical character recognition. It checks a log file to see if the cruise speed for that ship is set, and if it does not match it kills the Freelancer client, makes the change, and pops up a window saying wut it did and that the ship is ready to use.

There's already a plugin for FLHook that allows you to do the cruise part. The thruster also isn't that hard to do either. I do like the idea but it has alot of drawbacks. 1 being flying in formation with members with different cruise speeds. And the other is catching people speed modding. It's easy to do now because every ship goes the same speed, i can't imagine how hard it will be with ships with different speeds.

why 5k cargo? you suppose to be like a "smuggler" of sorts, and having 5k cargo wont make it easier.. In RP of course

Edit: oh yea i like the idea.. it can be nice.

variable thrusters / cruise speeds ... keep in mind that even if you make it so that :

- fighters due to their small engines have a cruise of like 200
- battleships due to their massive engines have a cruise of like 800

you will end up with fighters forming up and "catapult" cruise at 820 - formation messes much with different cruise speeds.

and you need some stealth to do so, i dont see a huge truck going through military blockade like there is nothing there.
i am not saying no, i am just saying i dont see it that way. might be wrong.

Several mods out there succesfully have:

Ships with multiple thrusters.
(speed drops with each lost and ship can skew if they are mounted apart symetrically--just like real life).

Ships with varying thruster speeds and recharge rates..

...and use FLAC or FLHook to monitor them.

I just want the word "fast" to be phased out of Disco vocabulary when dealing with ships. All ships go the same speed. It would be awesome if there was a racing ship that has crazy impulse speed, 2 cargo space, and no guns.
