actually he has a point here. We should build economy for small guys not the big ones. So focus on the things that you can buy cheap but sell cheapish as well.

Add RP...

My entire faction is based off of trading. We haven't had any problems so far.

Aside from that lame comment, I would recommend a changing economy. As for smaller ships, well I remember when i started out in a rhino... go figure.

Edit: Add large slow moving ships that cannot dock, ie. barge but smaller. This would give a chance for "Base Owners" to unload cargo from large ships and earn a profit OR (For those who think this would be giving too much power to the players) have the convoys carry unloading ships. This could give a use to smaller ships as well.

The problem I see is we come to this server to RP and/or PvP. Trading has little to none of either of those. We can probably make trading more innovative but I don't think we can every truely remove the boredom from the game. That, I think leaves it down to the individual player to inhance their own trading experience.

No reason not to try, though. We all want a better experience.

actually dude's last post made me think.
how about some planets where big ships can't dock?
maybe some bases where those ships can't simply fit inside.
(Freeports, rock bases, junker bases)

...

i mean. ponder about this option. Realistic but hard on big traders. but bigger cash rewards so it helps smaller traders.
and someone will finally start to use frikkin freighters of 500 cargo.

Point traders to the big book of RP so they can establish motivation to play their trade ship whether it's said 600 cargo freighter or a big fricking Shire. Encourage interaction with other players.

Call me weird but I enjoy smuggling whether I'm hunted or not. Sometimes it's uneventful, but the magic of pretending to be a stolen freight launderer or war profiteer never really ceases to entertain me.

To hell with actual profit. That's just the icing on the cake. I'll run a 20c/s route as happily as a 220c/s as long as there's RP involved and a chance to be interacted with.

So anyway,

I've been going on about traders bring pirates.. pirates bring lawfuls... lawfuls + pirates + traders = action and fun.

So I think we all need to get trading.

Stop discouraging powertrading, and get powertrading like I do =D

Two ideas to make the use of small freighters more desirable, both far from being perfect:

- Transports are slow and turn like a rock, while Freighters are fast and agile. In my opineon, Transports should be used in long shipping runs, from House to House, using the 'highway' Trade Lanes (For example the Independent worlds, straight forward routes without sharp turns from TL to TL). They should exclusively dock at the distribution bases which avery house has at least one of (Kensington Shipping Platform and Trenton Outpost for example). These bases should provide profitable routes to the other Houses, with many options where to go next, so Transport pilots are not tempted to dock at the main House Planets/Bases.
The small transports could pick up the delivered goods and use the 'coutry roads' to deliver them on the Bases they are needed on, with moderate profit but doing more runs in the same time. The big Transports would keep their freedom to go all across Sirius, making big profits, while the Freighters could be doing distribution work inside the Houses, which would give them much more traffic (wich is much needed in Bretonia, Rheinland and Kusari).

- Smuggeling, like regular trading is only profitable when large Transports are being used, but i think that smuggeling should be done in small ships that don't draw that much attention, are faster and can slip though patrols more easy. What would happen if we remove the Transports from the smuggler ID and raise the profits? Contraband should generate more profit/unit than legal cargo anyway and more small smuggling ships would add a lot of realism and flavour to the game in my opineon.

Now go ahead and beat me with a stick :P

in my opinion are thoughts made of win, really.
and yeah, as it's been stated bigger ships could still carry the cargo from smaller bases, but would require it being ferried across by smaller ships. Huge potential for player interaction, and any of that has potential to develop into RP.

maybe the only large ship able to dock with small bases is the heavy lifter? finally giving it a purpose?
though both these ideas kinda destroy the pirate train and transport, being unable to smuggle and even dock with most of their bases

Problem with this is you'd make traders dependent from other players being online. Noone could trade when the server is nearly empty, and people just sitting at bases waiting for traders would draw activity from other places where it is much needed.

The P-Trans could still be used for cargo-piracy though.
The P-Train is supposed to supply Pirate Bases with Fuel, Consumer goods, Food and other consumables, not to smuggle Cardie or Slaves.

hmmm, too true :/
it'd create a new type of player only to transport cargo 100m

i guess if any changes are made, it really needs to be focused on still allowing traders to work solo, and still being profitable enough for the new guys.
smuggling idea still has merit though, but i imagine half the fighters wouldn't be used then, and you'd see tons of smuggler bactrans instead of pirate trains
