Oh my goodness Tenacity. Your ship designs continue to astound me. These are great! As for assuaging the abuse problem with the ship, just add another snippet to the server rules that are specific to these. If anyone finds race ships not in the race system (barring moving the ship there from the purchase point) that ship would be considered OORP and sanctioned accordingly. With evidence of course.

I dunno...I don't like the idea of requiring more rules or sanctions...a built-in deterrent would be preferred I think
EDIT: Plus, you are gonna want to parade your winning ride around to get major props:D

how about no? I rather like the thought of using these ships as civilian craft, with no weapon hardpoints or anything they'd be harmless.
The models I've made have two hardpoints - one for a countermeasure, one for a cruise disruptor. I would probably give each of the ships two thrusters, cruise capability, very little hull (starflea-like hull), and a class 1 light fighter shield hardpoint.

What about adding mines...could mix it up a bit...they could be banned in some races while other, more illegal, races could be of the death race variety...harharhar
I can imagine that there would be a ton of collision related explosions in races due to the low hull and crappy shield. Light fighters cannot afford to run into ANYTHING otherwise they will find themselves at no shields and 1/4 hull. A compensation for this would be to give them a good supply of bots/bats.
eh, i'd prefer the obstacles to be kept on the track, and extremely difficult to avoid.
Back when I played Battlefield 1942, we ran a stunt server with several custom made maps designed for high risk fighter plane racing. Had to do things like fly through spiralling tunnels barely larger than your wingspan, dive through bridge cables, squeeze through factory smokestacks, and land on a strip barely longer than your plane.
I'm thinking that if we added race courses with tunnels, obstacles, minefield mazes, sun coronas, atmospheres, etc. then we'd have enough danger on the track so that only the best pilots get through.
The point is to create a race where speed isnt the most deciding factor, but high-accuracy flying skills are.

Racing should be dangerous...skill should be paramount...no mucking around with safety nets like b/bs

The racing should be difficult and the noobs should be blowed up when they run into too many obstacles...I want this to be a purely skill based adventure
I'd like to see them in fast low-end LFs without shields, weapons, bots or bats. If they bump, or hit rocks or whatever, the thin hull can only take so much before it crashes.
Also, I like the large "radial engine" look of that racer someone posted.
I like that Rheinland ship design, with the radial piston engine thing on the front. I just hope it is not a pain to texture, with the Rheinland textures being a nightmare to work with.
