I ask because I made, at a low level, a FL character, deliberately to be a sort of generalist, kicking about from system to system in a battered BW freighter with an attempt at a well planned weps setup[a la Han Solo, the Firefly etc] and sort of never run regular trade roots as such..just travel about doing the less suicidal missions and turning a modest profit whereever he went. This was fine. However I decided to "enlarge" the character while keeping to the basic build so now he's in a BW transport etc......this seemed a reasonable way to go....I still wanted to keep to my origional movement patterns etc, still be the same guy just in a bigger ship. I have noticed though a bit of rather odd interaction with some other players....like I hailed a passing Freelancer and recieved the reply "Hello Trader" and a mildly curious reply starting Hmmm? was immediately awnsered with a "barked" "WHAT?" Being told to move on by Liberty Lawfulls and one thing and another.........If its considered the done thing and what have you I would be perfectly willing either to allign him with a trading faction, or trade back down I guess....but I did want a Freelancer and the ship was a relatively major investment etc. There seems nothing in the ID that I've gone outside of....hes just a Freelancer tagged/IDed guy in a BW Transport..nothing odd at all. However I don't want to be within the rules but, you know, not doing the done thing or whatever. Maybe I just ran into a few ....odd interactions which are unconected with anything I'm now worrying about, hopefully so. i just thought, still being relatively new to this incarnation of Disco, I 'd see what people think.
Its not bad form, its just that Freelancer IDed transports are usually labeled as Traders since most people using a similar combination do so to trade.

Oh, ok fair enough so......Of course he does do trading but in a deliberately "unplanned" manner. Its the kicking about from system to system thing that he's really "for".
If somebody calls you a Trader, let them know in character
"Hey, I'm not a common trader, I'm a Freelancer and I live on this ship"
Or something like that.
And if a lawful harasses you when you're not doing anything illegal, like smuggling or something like that... tell him off, in character of course, and not too rudely, like don't swear at them or anything but tell them.
"I'm perfectly within my rights to be here etc etc etc"
or
"Don't you have anything better to do than harass an innocent Freelancer? Shouldn't you be out catching criminals or something?"
Again, Borderworlds Transport with a Freelancer IFF and ID isn't bad form at all, but you probably will be confused with a Trader a few times, but just feel free to correct people of the mistake in character,
Ah, good stuff. Thanks for all of the helpful input folks. I suppose I was just erring on the side of [kinda extreme] caution re. the RP aspects of it and what have you.....I actually enjoy working within the supposed limitations of each ID.....like in this case he's a Freelancer and thus the BW transporter is about the biggest ship he's "allowed" so he most likely will never need another unless he should turn fighter pilot or full time trader in somethin' huge [in which case I'd go with a trader ID etc]......I was just worried that it was a similar situation to the long ago issue of BHG iff and the [at the time] over-powered BH gunboat....i.e. quite within the rules...."legal" but distained by many as too easy an option. I'm glad that is not the case. Many thanks again for all the helpful info.
Freelancer TAG NP with me,but if i see Freelancer ID? I consider it trying to avoid pirate's. Some in past(not implying you do this) use the freelancer ID to claim they are friend's with...oh say corsair's/outcast's/hessien's and so on. Truth be told, if i am pirating and see a BMM ship, and a Freelancer ship coming? i will jack the freelancer first because no faction behind him to back him up.
