Having worked my way up from a starflyer to a lane hacker IDed/Iff'ed dagger, and having pirated enough to get a stiletto, all without using /givecash (yes, I repfixed without bribes!), I don't really see how it's a big issue. I could just of easily of gotten a mule and a smuggler ID, and of started trading to work my way up. It's completely possible to work your way up without help, if you know what you are doing.

As for how I did it, well, the BHG depots in Manchester drop h-fuel, which sells well at Rochester and increases your reputation with unlawfuls. After that, it's just a matter of buying that low-end piece of unlawful tech and either trading with a mule and a smuggler ID or getting help on the missions for a pirate faction ID. On a related note, when doing missions with some random person, I noticed he has an eagle with class 5 guns and a stock class 8 shields, yet i was taking out the NPC's with more ease in my dagger. Skill is also a factor. Any help on a mission is far better then no help, though.

Great idea Janus! Your idea sounds like it would work great on the server and it would be a great way to help people get started. Maybe this could even lower the amount of sanctions, which (stereotypically) are newer players.

I would even join in on the convoy and help with funds.

How about you organize an event? I'm sure a ton of people would show up!

I like this idea alot because rather than dropping a fair bit of money on some player you take pity on who then has a 50/50 chance of growing up to be a 'lolwutting' 'capwhore'...

You get the chance to 'apprentice' them so to speak, as well as introduce them to the community, speak on their behalf if they make little mistakes, help them to learn the unspoken 'rules' and get a feel for things.

Sure I guess people could still 'rough it' up through the ranks, but this provides a nice alternative option methinks.

Drat. I wish I didn't have to be the little guy to get hired as an escort pilot. *sigh* no one ever hires lone Griffin pilots I guess... oh well.

Bravo and kudos for a great Idea that gives something back to the community in a fantastic way!

As another idea, maybe a non-lawful person could set up shop in a similar fashion.
Act as a Generic pirate helping other 'cast-off's' to earn their place in the pirating/smuggling world so that they can become full fledged independent pirates or even eventually pick a faction.

The new guy's "gateway to the pirates life."

This person could help them set up a basic pirate ship and help them learn to Pirate or smuggle well with good solid RP, introduce them to other player-pirates, as well as helping them through the struggle that is getting to be an unlawful. (IE pay for some bribes etc)

I'd volunteer but for lack of both time and funds. I'm all tied up modding. :P

I hire regular escort pilots too:)

Yes, I have a contract with HS, but there are no doubt gonna be times they're not available.

I also used to have a few low level armour upgrades and stuff, plus basic civvy weapons on my arms dealer to give to people who roleplayed with my arms dealer as well, but I ran out some time ago and haven't bothered restocking with them yet. Maybe I should make a fairly anonymous rhino in penny and help a few people get off the ground in terms of some basic RP and cash...
Please do...the new guys on this server are really starting to be a pain in the butt... THERE'S ONLY SO MANY QUESTIONS I CAN ANSWER!!!

This is a wonderful Idea. Rather than just giving money away and having that person be a capwhore later, actually having them be RP'ers (Really Pwnzor'ers) and teaching them is much better.

Come on! Be free!

good idea, if you do it right. Many of the new guys simply DONT want to RP however. But they are easy to see

No longer a slave to the man!

The BHG| will not let you have Barracudas, just to get this out of the way nice and early. Go with Hawks. Otherwise, however, good idea, and I support it.

Indeed, as this works very well, and I managed to get from an starflier to an eagle, doing escort work for various traders, before having to dump four blue blazes on the character cause I couldn't find sutable storage.
