Today, Roo Avery has published a Freelancer Feature Article on Xbox Live Addicts website, one of the lead UK Xbox Live fansites. Run by a Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional), the site is an EMEA Xbox Community Network member, an IGDA Member and a Microsoft Partner.

The article tells about the Freelancer modding and server community, including The Starport where many of us participate, and Freelancer Community Network which we are a part of. You can read it all here:

Freelancer - Does Multiple Player still live on?

and we certainly recommend all of you to check it out.

The article features a Discovery screenshot: one that you could see on ModDB earlier, with a Unione Corse ship flying in an asteroid field in Burgundy. There's also an interview with Starport admin, FriendlyFire, who mentions us as well.

Now, to get away fromt the egoistic rant on ourselves: in fact, the article became a great opportunity for a number of Freelancer servers to showcase their stuff, and it mentions all of the prominent fansites, mod communities, and servers which are currently running for Freelancer. Certainly something to help keeping Freelancer alive, and quite fairly saying that it's yet very far from dead.

Quote:And that about wraps up my feature, I want to take time to thank FriendlyFire, Worfeh and The Starport community for helping me with this write up. I want to thank the Server Admins and Owners out there, and the other key figures of the community that keep the game alive.

Thank you for reading… and tell your friends!

Wow,

Thanks for the link. Did not have any clue these sites or mods even existed.

Awesomeness , epic awesomeness. Why no mention of everyones never ending quest for the source code though? It would be a perfect place to poke Microsoft about it:P

Yep. Freelancer never dies. Microsoft will, though. Source code or no source code!

Freelancer doesn't get the attention and accolades it deserves very often, and its nice to see that some people in that mythic place known as 'the outside world' are taking notice once again. :)

Greetings Discovery,

As you can see I am Roo, author the above linked article relating to Freelancer.

I am glad to see the article was extremely well recieved. A few people have asked me recently why I wrote the article. Simple really... I was a Freelancer Server Admin, a player, a modder and I was one of the founding Admins on The Starport (also mentioned above).

I was offered a chance to write about something I strongly believed in and as such, I wrote about the Global FL Community.

Now to answer your question about the source code. I can promise you, it won't happen. I am sorry. The feature wasn't intended for that purpose anyway. There will be more, and I will continue to speak for the community whenever I have a chance.

For more information on me and my experience in Freelancer please visit my personal site www.kriswbennett.co.uk and select the 'aka Roo-Avery' page.

If you any questions at all, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Kind Regards,

Kris
