I love this new rule/change, when it can be easily proven and enforced. Was out hitting the lanes today, a nice 4K transport shows up with a full load of some raw metal, and instantly F1s. I see the message and I just snickered..
This is easily the worst idea I've heard since getting rid of shields. I would like to take this opportunity to scold whoever made this up for forgetting that there are some players who don't live in Europe. Some live in America, where probably 80% of the world's gaming population lives. Some live in Australia, imagine their terrible pings.
This should be undone. It doesn't affect me because at the moment I cannot log in to Freelancer (stupid Vista / McAfee combo), but it is unjust, cruel, and in every way stupid. Have it detect console quits, F1s, and Alt+F4s, don't activate it every time some poor Aussie or West Coaster loses connection because of inconvenient server placement.
Scenario: Guy lags out in large fleet combat with 20 or more guys and dozens of NPCs, and all the guys in the other guild see this, screenshot it, and report. A few minutes later, he finds his name in the Player Sanctions section for F1ing. He appeals to the admins, who (at least I think) have not wavered in their policy of never going back on an F1 sanction. Sucks to be him. Especially when he ends up lagging out multiple times per day.

Anyways, I'm glad to hear some positive changes were made in my absense, or I had a longstanding fear that was based on misconceptions likely caused by my innate paranoia. I could have sworn I read somewhere an admin stated that when it came to F1, you were guilty until proven innocent (which is virtually impossible anyway). Good to hear the news.
I would like to say that I am now officially in favor of this change now thanks to Virus clearing me up.
My problem is for some reason whenever the phone rings my internet dies. It's yet to affect me though, since I'm only usually around Buccaneers, who know about this thing. Its very helpful with powertraders that F1 when you pirate them. Example:
Guy in Mammoth tries to run from me and Thomas Anderson. We chase him for a few minutes and he's out of regens and has half hull.
Guy hits F1.
Message pops up.
BOOM! SNAC in the face!
Another guy gets that thing where he F1's and starts flying off in one direction, meaning we cant get a shot in. Then he has the nerve to come right back through hauling more military vehicles, coming out right next to us.
BOOM! SNAC in the face!

Your close if you go to the other side of the world.

Can I interest you in a Cable Modem to replace your Dial-Up?
Eh on a serious note.... if your in That big a fight like Andre mentioned, its clear to everyone theres going to be lag. The last 5v5 i was in was laggy. A 10v10 is definately going to be laggy (and usually that indicates an event battle, which is during Server Peak times).
Its one thing to have:
"____________ is attempting to engage his cloaking device" pop up to your enemies when your being pirated, losing a fight, or are about to come under attack by an overwhelming force you know you wont live against.
Its an entirely different story to have that same message pop up when your simply doing what everyone else's doing, and the same lag thats probably getting everyone else in the fight, just happened to be a little worse for you and disconnected you.
How can people differentiate between a Disconnect / Lagout, and an F1? It all depends on the person who disconnected. This is why it is strongly advised that if you do get disconnected, you do what you can to inform the person(s) you were interacting with prior to the disconnect, so they know what happened and know not to report you. You can also then take a screenshot of you explaining what had happened, and offering to resume where things left off, should they still report you and you find yourself sanctioned, and use it as a counter to the sanction.
