Hey folks, since I am still well ok, I am almost a full on lawful player on this server with only one Junker which borders the gap. I would like to pool the knowledge and the experience of the community as the ways of piracy, and the art of doing it right.
We all know a pirate, killed a pirate, shot a pirate, and have even been at the mercy of a pirate over the long history of this server. A lot of pirates here in my knowledge, do things right and RP very well, and go for the less stereotypical "2 mill or die" approach that plagues this player base. I mean, you don't see many traders having a cheque signed off for "The Royal Bank of the Xenos" now do you?
To me there are a few group of pirates.
The Scurvy Dogs - In my opinion, these players fly the correct gear, RP like a maniac and pirate very well along the lines of RP and don't always demand cash, but cargo as well. To me, that is proper piracy, you steal what you need, and greed asks for more.
The Highwaymen - This group is aimed at the ones who either sit at the well travelled routes, either as a lone wolf, for a group of like-minded individuals. They tend not to be too 'patriotic' in their faction's cause, and go for the wallet over the cargo, but there are exceptions.
The boisterous bunch - These players are the ones you expect to find in a local bar or pub, loud mouthed, and not afraid to show it. In both noise and physicality. These people are the RP'ers, the ones I sorta like, piracy is also their game and its up to them for their taste for money or cargo. Its sort of up to the individual. I place the stamp of the Xenos as the stereotype here, there are others, I know that.
The hooded thief - This is the person who sits at the routes, but stays silent and attacks their disrupted prey via private channels hoping not to scare off more prey. I place these as mainly players going for the wallet.
Didn't intend to make a list, but go figure. Don't take my list as a stamp for the stereotypes, its just something in my tired mind right now.
Anyway, back on track. What would you recommend to pretty much any unlawful pilot that has their eyes on making a living/gameplay in the world of piracy and how to to it with a hint of 'etiquette'?
There are many who go "2 mill or die!". This is a little wrong in my eyes, but its still piracy and I can't cry foul to it. What would you suggest for people who wish to pirate, and in a fun RP way?
One tip I would suggest is to try using the /setmsg command with some frequently used dialogues. For example, on my Corsair, when I type /1, I automatically say "How about a small donation for the Corsairs?" and then do any further RP from there. Even though it's just one line, it's a good way to get you started with further RP that may take place. Plus, the good thing about the line "How about a small donation for the Corsairs?" is that it's pretty much universal, meaning it can be used in almost any situation.
Don't steal my line though. Think of your own.:P
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
Sadistic Looter - enjoys trashing your transport while taking whatever they want. this can be applied to people who take out half your hull while demanding money, or shooting off turrets and letting you go. they enjoy your pain.
and in terms of etiquette, be reasonable, if someone claims they cant pay what you are demanding, take whatever they offer, then hit them up for the full amount next time. e
and dont really be a jerk. if your character is a jerk, then feel free to take their sheilds down and even shoot their hull for a few seconds. but dont shoot of turrets and stuff, thats just mean.
(anyone who reads this should note that i have, on occasion, blasted off turrets. and enjoyed it.)

I recently started a Junker, to satisfy my desire for doing unlawful things. The advantage I have is some modeled RP background for the character, so I can concentrate on special things and not just the 'U GIEV OR DAI!'...
I mainly do cargo piracy, because I want to have fun with my 'opponent'. Sadly I mostly encounter ooRP dockers, who just dock and wait until I am gone. People, it is way more fun if you RP with me instead of against me.
A suggestion for good RP as a pirate...hmm...i sugest you sit by me for an hour. that should do it.
Fletcher, i am serious. Contact one of my chars. Preferably my blood dragon.
And by the way, there is too many "suggestions" and "tips" for pirates, for just one thread. You are just a padawan...but soon....master the arts...AND YOU WILL BE MASTA!
I'm a Highwayman. Considering that was the name of my Lane Hacker. >.>
Anyway. Was fun pirating people for whatever the hell I felt like at the time depending my ship. I want... One CD. No, that's the wrong one. TAke it back. That one. Yes. There we go... Now get. Next time I'll take all your cargo when I have my train...
Firstly, you don't need setmsgs. Give your piracy a little flair and try to use different messages each time. No only does it help liven up your RP, but the traders as well.
Secondly, make 500k your maximum asking price for the average trader, 250k for smaller transports, and 100k for even smaller ones, and don't pirate anything under 2000 cargo often. Just tell them they're too small, and tell them to shoo. If someone in a low-end transport gives you some great RP, reward them, send them back their credits once they're out of sight and say thank you. We want to encourage RP interaction between traders and pirates. Piracy isn't a way to make money, it's all about the roleplay.
Should you catch someone with 4000+ cargo, feel free to ask 1-2 million credits from them.
Thirdly, never pirate in a Gunboat. Traders respect smaller ship better, I've earned twice as many credits in my Greyhound than I have in my Barghest and Falcata combined.
If a trader gets away from you, don't pursue them to the ends of the earth. They've escaped fair and square, turn around and head back to the lane, there's plenty more traders to catch. The bad guys don't have to win every time.
If you see a lawful, any lawful at all, turn yourself around, engage your cruise engines and get the hell out of there. If you're not running away from an LPI Patriot, you're doing it wrong. Remeber, lawfuls always have back-up right around the corner, and you don't. you're alone out there and once you're engaged it's harder to escape. Better to run before the fighting starts and come back once it's all clear.
When being pursued, do not lead any one back to an unlawful base. It doesn't help the RP of a hidden base to remain hidden if you lead the Police and Navy back there every time you run away. Head for the nearest Freeport or Zoner base.
