We have only lolpiracy here. That is because some very small kiddies play, I guess.
A good pirate would take all money, take all goods, tow ship away and sell it or blow it up, rape all gals and kill all who cannot provide entertainment. Or at least demand HUGE ransom for not doing it so.
So I disagree with those who suggest to be modest. Be greedy, be evil, blow off turrets, shoot his hull to the point it is certain he will explode a bit later from radiation in O-41. If he has human cargo, execute some of those, take some hostages. If he goes `I have children to feed, let me go`, make sure children lose their daddy. And enjoy momentum, do not hurry. 10 minutes of horror minimum. He is your toy. Do what everybody does with toys - brake it.
And no, I didn`t post this, if anyone thought it was me.

And don't say "Argh", only the pirates from the pirates of the caribbean ride say "Argh".
Ruthless and nasty, I like it, but I don't think other people will agree.
Being a pirate is all about fear, traditional pirates are terrorist, and this guy had it down pat.
Then again, I as a trader I prefer the nice pirates we have here.

It's just a game, you get nothing from taking the fun from other people.
[21/08/2009 11:11:56 p.m.] Ashes: fun is not like sand in an hour glass
[21/08/2009 11:12:08 p.m.] Ashes: to get more, you don't have to take the sand from the other half
Piracy isn't an excuse to be a jerk, you can still roleplay being one without actually being one.
I agree with Nighthawk, but I suppose I have to, as I don't have a Pirate toon and mostly fly my trader.
With the trade routes I know currently, I'm lucky if I clear 2 mill on the *really* good trades.
That being the case, I sure as heck don't want to be handing over half my profit for that leg of the route.
As for being pirated by gunboats, it's not my most favorite thing and tends to make me cranky, at least with a fighter I have a chance, even if it's only a small chance of fighting and getting away.
So...
Check the ships 'rank'
After a while you should be able to tell if your target has any excess money by looking at thier rank and the sort of ship they are flying.
Scan the ship first!
There have been times when I've had to sell my bots/bats/decoys to get any sort of a load.
If your target doesn't have a full load there is a pretty good chance they just don't have the money for you to ta...ask for.
Ask for a 'reasonable' amount.
Don't go asking a person in a Rhino for 500k.... unless thier rank is way up there.
The "Take what you can and destroy the rest" approach has a logical flaw too. If you kill the chicken, it stops laying eggs. In the long run it pays better to take only a part and let the trader go, so you can rob him again in the future.
' Wrote:Firstly, you don't need setmsgs. Give your piracy a little flair and try to use different messages each time. No only does it help liven up your RP, but the traders as well.
Secondly, make 500k your maximum asking price for the average trader, 250k for smaller transports, and 100k for even smaller ones, and don't pirate anything under 2000 cargo often. Just tell them they're too small, and tell them to shoo. If someone in a low-end transport gives you some great RP, reward them, send them back their credits once they're out of sight and say thank you. We want to encourage RP interaction between traders and pirates. Piracy isn't a way to make money, it's all about the roleplay.
Should you catch someone with 4000+ cargo, feel free to ask 1-2 million credits from them.
Thirdly, never pirate in a Gunboat. Traders respect smaller ship better, I've earned twice as many credits in my Greyhound than I have in my Barghest and Falcata combined.
If a trader gets away from you, don't pursue them to the ends of the earth. They've escaped fair and square, turn around and head back to the lane, there's plenty more traders to catch. The bad guys don't have to win every time.
If you see a lawful, any lawful at all, turn yourself around, engage your cruise engines and get the hell out of there. If you're not running away from an LPI Patriot, you're doing it wrong. Remeber, lawfuls always have back-up right around the corner, and you don't. you're alone out there and once you're engaged it's harder to escape. Better to run before the fighting starts and come back once it's all clear.
When being pursued, do not lead any one back to an unlawful base. It doesn't help the RP of a hidden base to remain hidden if you lead the Police and Navy back there every time you run away. Head for the nearest Freeport or Zoner base.
-Piracy, the Liberty Rogue way.
Hmm and what the piracy will be?.. I dont really understand. What kinda a stupid rp youll have if you pirate 1 percent ofyour current profit? Why trader should be afraid in the first place?... That causes no reactions.
And I saw .. terrible words written "Piracy shoudn/t be profitable"... your kiddin me? What fool in rp would risk his life pirating then its not profitable? Personaly I like to make money atleast enought to maintain my chars. Yes I hate trading, so I rather wont play a character in which I can't roleplay becouse I'm forced to do it since I am in lack of money. I'll simply roleplay for money.
You like this way. Do it. But do not force others to do it.
' Wrote:The hooded thief - This is the person who sits at the routes, but stays silent and attacks their disrupted prey via private channels hoping not to scare off more prey. I place these as mainly players going for the wallet.
Players going for the wallet? Piracy is not a money-making venture, you typically spend more in CDs than you get anyways.
But any criminal with half a brain wouldn't advertise his presence to the entire system. He'd use local channels and his second demand (after stop) would be "don't touch that emergency beacon." He'd catch traders like a spider catches flies in a web. Besides, one word on the system channels and he'll be getting chased by a shoot first, RP later lolful shipswarm.

Who says you can't use different messages each time using setmsg? Why not prepare a new one each time and have it ready in advance for meet the trader (and you don't want to use five CDs keeping him there while you type out your first line)?
Hmm, maybe we should come up with some sort of little rank piracy guide or 'gentleman' approach? It won't be concrete or nothing, just a guideline as to the max it should be to pirate a level >50 >60 and so on and so forth. I agree that rank and ship class, and cargo should somehow come into play to the ransom/pirate tax amount. But it should never be a rule, just a general tip or something.
