I think we should do somethung similar to Nightstalkers,it would be like buying a system except you woild be buying an NPC faction. For example,GoR wants to buy an NPC faction, since GoR are Outcasts there NPC Faction would be named GoR and be stationed in Alpha.just an idea....:D
AYE, been on NS for a long while lately, so I know it well. The clan systems were quite nicely thought there. Each major clan could buy a system along with clan-related NPCs patroling the area (they were hostile towards any non-clan player) Those factions usually had some specific clan ships, varying from the basic and commonly availible ones in terms of textures, sometimes some unique designs. There was an idea on disco to create clan systems like those. The =BSG's= quest for Coronado, same for ELF and HF...
OK guys ... Plot lost ... Nightstalkers this isn't, Discovery it is. Why try to import ideas from other servers.
Do you not like this one as it is ? ...
If you unhappy with this one, go play somewhere else. This is a completely pointless thread now. We are in
beta testing mode here, and the only thing we should be looking at currently, is checking for major bugs and
balance issues, not bleating about 500 foot crab like things, and whether this is better or worse than elsewhere.
Lets have a bit of respect for the mod creator.
If you like Discovery, stick around. If you don't, you know the answer ...
If you roleplay correctly, then you wouldn't have to buy an NPC faction to be aligned with. The GoR are Outcasts
We do not need to buy the faction. We sort of know what Outcasts do, and who their friends and enemies are.
It ain't hard to work out ...
System claiming we do here now anyway, just in beta things have been put on hold.
Part of the experience is being able to manipulate your own reputations, not have the admins do it for you.
I re-iterate, THIS IS DISCOVERY ... Its is its own mod, not a clone of anywhere else. In the main, we like it pretty
much as it is. Thats why 'most' of us are here.

If we like this one the way it is we wouldn't be suggesting improvements. Just because an idea was inspired by another mod doesnt mean its an idea that won't work on Discovery. I see older players on this mod getting so accustomed to Discovery's flaws that they actually defend them here on the boards. Have an open mind, and thank new players for having the interest in your small tight-nit community and taking the time to offer opinions. In other words, lets have a bit of respect for the people who play the mod, without whom the mod would be useless.
Look at the spirit of these suggestions: improving player faction enhancements-a logical critique of this mod/server when you consider that the only factions that own systems are factions that own vanilla systems from before some past version came out (I have no idea how long HF have been waiting for Vespucci, but I imagine they will be waiting a lot longer.) Otherwords they own these systems by default-never had to go through any sort of half developed system submission program that may or may not be approved by an admin or mod creator that is hardly ever seen on the server, and then wait an indefinate but very long period before they get to play as the system owner.
There is some sort of prejudice at work on this server that pops out of people's mouths whenever the name of another mod is spoken or worse yet some sort of non-vanilla idea. If you fight for the purity of the Discovery concept, fine, but when someone suggests an idea you don't like, suggest another idea that accomplishes the intent of the criticizm while keeping the mod true to its original concept.
Established Discovery players represent the community as a whole when they post on these boards, keep that in mind.
Yngen, your points are all more than valid, and most of them I had considered when I posted anyway.
I'm just a bit frustrated with the influx from other servers coming here and expecting this one to become the
one they just left. Its still fairly unique, thank God.
My take on it as I suppose I'm now considered a 'Veteran' player here, has always been ...
'If it ain't broken, don't fix it'.
What I enjoy is the basics and the simplicity of using a vanilla Freelancer base, not an expanded and added to
mod with many illocigal things dropped in just because they can be, for the creator to show what he can do.
This makes the roleplay much more important, as its up to the individual to create the situations without help
from mod and admin. This is not for lazy players, and still far from perfect. But hey, bugs and suggestions is
there for this sort of thing, not a whole 'Lets change this mod now' thread.
As for the system owning situation, I'm as frustrated as you if not more so, as I have in interest in not just one,
but two systems. Mine are just slightly less well publicised at this point maybe.
I just wish people would take a little time to see how this works, enjoy it as it is at the moment, before calling
for massive changes.
I respect everyone elses choices, and I hope they respect mine ... This is becoming like a broken record here
at the moment though, and the minute someone says ... 'Its not like, wherever' ... Will tend to get my back up
a little. Right on, its not like the others ... Long may it stay that way.
This is still Igiss's vision, not ours. I play here because just like real life, you cant have everything perfectly
as you want, and have to live by rules created by someone else.
We just adapt ... and debate the somewhat less logical I hope.

I hope the little Dom Kavosh remenants, well described by templar as "marks" arent considered as spoiling the mod. I was just hoping for weapon platforms in the empty omicrons which have no nav maps to look like artefacts... or somthing like that. It doesn't really bother me but IMO i think it would not spoil the mod at all....
I can see where the arguements lie, but i reckon little "marks" can be made as a compromise between the two polarised sides at this point. I hope this falls into many peoples acceptance....;)
I dont even think the dom kavosh made it out. They were integral to the story line remember? I thought the artefact that trent used to make the nomads retreat was dom kavosh.... I dont want a comeback, just a few visible artefact remains.
What i dont want is people just shunning the idea without a useful arguement.
They can shun the idea if they do have a useful and constructive arguement though.
