I'll keep this short so you'll read this.
not helpful.
It's been thrown around in other channels that the current Coalition ships are bugged. In the conventional sense of the word I don't really believe it. They're fine ships in their own rite, but their survivability is pretty low for anyone but the most expert of pilots.
@Jinx - If we got better stats because of our amount of enemies, i don't see it. The ships currently ingame were given the larger power core and slightly higher agility and armor because they're big as barns in my opinion. I'd like to see smaller ships, but with that comes the requisite (and probably unfairly instituted) huge agility nerf. The power cores are almost required because Coalition weapons eat a LOT of juice (especially the class9).
What I'd like to have in an ideal world would be about 10k armor for the VHF and Eagle agility, with the same powercore as it has now. But i'd also like a toilet of solid gold too, and neither are probably in the cards.
I'm quivering in anticipation of the bomber tell the truth.
I think thoses new ships can be very beautiful, but with colors/symbol more close to the current one. And, maybe, with the same size, make them more... aggresive? More Angular/sharp? They look like a box for me now, but i think that they can be as beautiful as the current are.
I dont get the meaning of that part. Reminds me of jet fighter, where air goes into chamber, and make whole thing moving.
I like how you didnt do that on VHF model. All in all, nice work.
If the SCRA ships are PvP disadvantaged, then buff their armor or give them an equalizing advantage and/or fix any actual glitches they might have.
No need to throw the baby out with the bathwater so to speak.
If we can keep the current coalition ships, I vote these new ones get made into a new Civilian line.
Manufactured by a Libertonian corporation and sold everywhere but Rheinland. Sort of in the vein of the Renzu ships.
I'll pitch in my personnal thoughts on these creations.
Personally, I prefer the old ones. Aesthetically speaking, I prefer the old ones because, they have so much more depth. They look agressive, bulky, well, you know. The general idea we have of our commie machines. Sort of.
These have very little... thinking going on. They are, much like Jinx put it; made to be pretty and efficient. Nothing more. I took the shape of the Basilisk, which I thought as rather pleasant, and extrapolated from there.
The white is meant for uniformity. Since stealth isn't that useful - or applicable in Freelancer, since we rely more on automated targetting systems rather than simple sight, painting them white seems like a fine idea. IMG ships have recently more or less all been converted to the black and red stripes theme, and the drab blue was, well, tbh, the blue from borderworld ships actually.
I like white because it is a nice contrast in space. Yes, they may be a bit too cartoony, but it's a bit hard to make it more metallic. Maybe by augmenting its metalic texture property... I'm not too sure how that work on FL engine. The only thing I can say is that I hope they look better in game.
The reason I didn't chose black is simple; most black ships lack details, even if they are there, they are hard to discern. We don't want just a flying black thing barely distinguishable, though some may argue it is cool, I think its rather unoriginal.
I chose the red star and white border, because I thought it prettier than gold. Simple as that. Beside, most coalition ships from Starlancer were painted in the color of the soviet airforce (and I recall only one other ship using the vietnamese star I believe, while another used the chinese PLAAF star, and apparently one gunboat was of arab build, but that's about it)
I used to like putting various color of stars on my different ships, but thing came down to a lack of uniformity, which is rather strange for a military force.
On a more technical aspect, those ships are extremely low poly, and use relatively small texture files.

Also, I don't really like the idea of making them civilian...
