RP ships are a good idea but... they are never really used. People want the best ship they van use for their role. Ever see someone flying a Prison Liner? How many Kusari Explorers or Spatials do you see? What about the Virage? Heavy Lifter? Repair Ship? People don't usually use these ships as much more than a stepping stone.
I'm not saying no, I'm just saying we need to be careful about what RP ships we add. They need to fill a need, not a want.
' Wrote:I saw an idea for 'ironman style suits' somewhere, and it set me thinking that there could be a super-bulky exo-suit style ship with no cruise engines, a unique very fast thruster, one gun slot that can only mount a unique ultra-tiny mining laser, and immunity to radiation.
It might also serve for good 'repair' RP or even as a 'construction worker' at a shipyard.
I actually like the spacesuit idea.
I actually like it a lot. That would be absolutely brilliant!

RPing is cool, pure RP ships arent, how often have you seen a heavy lifter? or as lucad mentioned, repair ships?
there needs to be something out of RP you can do with it, like mine, have it being a decent trade ship, or decent to pvp.
and Benjamin, dont go bashing mah yacht:P
mount a bretonian gunboat turret on it and you've almost got a forward gun:)
Make a custom rock or something that looks like a gas puff.
Or not.
Place in gas nebula. Add mineability.
?????
Profit.
(Just like Pennsylvania, guys. Come on, it's not hard. Give the GMG some lovin'."
And here's a thought. A very interesting one indeed. It would be entirely possibly to create a different kind of laser to give a mining bonus for gasses, along with a different kind of ship to give gas mining bonuses instead of mineral mining bonuses.
' Wrote:Sounds good, I've always been looking for a Exploring Frigate-ish vessel to discover all of Sirius's treasures.
But no, All I've found interesting was the Zoner GB or the Kursari Explorer. All the Cruisers are too expensive for just exploring... and too big.
The Corvo Cruiser is 158 million. Reasonably cheap in today's market.
It is the only cruiser-classed vessel in-built with such open-ended RP capabilities. (I am currently awaiting the medical frigate.)

Kusari Explorers and the Virage is ugly.
I do see Prison Liners and Spatials though, as well as Repair Ships. (Have not seen a Heavy Lifter in quite some time though.)
158 Million is -not- cheap (for those of who can't stand trading anyways).
And I don't find the virage ugly.
I think we need more Liners and 'Yacht's' (like the democritus luxury yacht).
I also think we need a 'human cargo only' transport. Liner's are meant for the rich, but there isn't really a form of (decent) transportation for those who want to travel economically.

I agree with the quoted statement about liners and yacht's we need more pretty ships not more combat ships. There is a decent form of transport for those who wish to not show off. It's called the Armored transport.
' Wrote:pure roleplay ships somewhat fail(ed). - for example - remember the Geb carrier. - it was meant to be a roleplay ship. - very large, well armed but mostly extremely vulnerable.
it was designed to be very weak - except in the second line with a VERY powerfull frontline to protect it.
it took only a few days when the first complaints came in - and many players asked it to be buffed up.
the result of it : players like RP vessels, but when it comes down to it - they want to have a ship that can defend itself as well as any other. - pvp over roleplay after all.
Jinx, PvP is and always has been the primary drive in this game, every faction in the game - even the ever-neutral zoners - are driven by conflict.
Sometimes it can be fun to RP an explorer or a miner who doesnt really see any threat in his/her lifetime, but most of the time those characters dont get much player interaction, and you can only handle so much exploration or mining before you start clawing your hair out.
There's also the fact that no matter how good a roleplayer you are, there will be people who ignore everything you say and just want to fight. We call them pvpwhores, capwhores, bomberwhores, lolwuts, so on and so forth... but the point is, they're everywhere - and they're unavoidable.
Everyone on the server, regardless of faction or ship type, will have to get into a battle eventually... and nobody wants to have their ship fail them when that happens. You can say in-RP that the order recon cruiser, or order carrier, were not meant to be front-line ships, but the fact of the matter is that the Order is fighting wars on 4 different fronts - in-the-back ships do not exist for the order at this point, everyone has to fight to survive. That's why the carrier needed changing, because it was crap in any fight it got into.
You cant give something with a battleship-sized hitbox cruiser-level shielding, armor, and weaponry, it just doesnt work, and the carrier had to be balanced differently than other battlecruisers because of that. The same will happen for other ships as needed on a case by case basis in order to make sure that they can hold their own when they get into a brawl.
