I've noticed recently that with the ever growing expansion of special RP based characters in Discovery there's a million different tangents starting to evolve from all kinds of backgrounds. And to be honest it's starting to bug me a little. I mean, when i see a person from a particular faction I expect to see an (at least) moderatley intelligent person who looks like they've passed their flight test, and are also good enough to be flying officially for a large faction/corporation.

Now before i continue i must say that corporate factions are exempt from this alot more than militarised factions.

Let me start with the rogues. I can understand that slipping into the steriotype of a silly, dim witted scurvy poirit can be very attractive to some. Hell, i've been there, done that, got the T-shirt yadda yadda yadda. It's very fun indeed. Sure i could stretch to say what's RP but one big steriotype target? This isn't particularly a bad thing.

However the sheer stupidity one may roleplay a character can be quite silly. Pilots are very highly talented people, they've passed all the tests that show their fit to fly and have the skill to do so. So you can understand when i say "lulwut" to a Rogue that's blown me up in 3 seconds flat, that can't come up with 4 when they added 2 + 2

Let's move up the scale a little more to the Order. The Order is a collection of highly intelligent/skilled academics, pilots and military staff. Yet there are still some who take on the role of your average hillbilly out there. I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable RP story behind it. But seriousley, let's land back on Planet Freelancer here. Why?

All i'm saying is let's keep the steriotypes from each faction within each faction. It helps make things alot more simpler and improves the realism of the game by far.

Official factions, consider yourselves less of a target of this rant.

Thanks for reading.

I'm interested if there's anywhere you can go to look up stereotypes, other than the obvious wiki pages and in-game descriptions?

I don't have any idea what those fleas are asking for..

I always try to separate my roleplay. My Border Worlder is a retired, carefree explorer in an Arrow. My Outcast is a tougher, intelligent pilot. My Discovered is a wise, neutral fellow. My LSF is hardcore for defense, and has no patience for pirates. My Omnom trial is enigmatic. My Consortium is a robot.

My point is that it isn't unheard of to separate the colors. It's just a bit harder. I have this kind of 'switch' in my mind that changes when I log onto each character, I have a mindset. Your pirate could be a batshat stupid bumbler in a bomber, but that isn't realistic. But hey, your choice. Your Naval Dreadnought, adversely, CANNOT be a bumbler.

Just try to keep your peas and corn separate.
