But if you don't like legal RP, why are you a police chief? Isn't that the very nature of your character adn the role you chose?

In Zapp's defense, there's, "Hey! You're carrying illegal narcotics!" and then there's, "According to Amendment 4B, Directory A, Subsection Q of the nonexistent Constitution of Fiction, X thing is illegal under Y circumstances", but I believe he already covered that.

Anyways, I assume that most of the begrudged posts got vaporized, or I'm looking at the wrong one of any thirty-eight posts made on the given subject. Mostly because I see Zapp-Blunt-Blunt-Zapp-Zapp-Arvg-Mb-Jeremy-Zapp-Blunt-Zapp. Thus, I see no problems. Adieu.

After reading the whole Ontario thing I think everyone involved could be accused of powergaming, meta-gaming and such.

It's an open ended RP and everyone is trying to steer it their way.

I'm busy now to articulate this any better, but I think this idea of how to conduct group RP and RP that is more than superficial warrants a good and clean discussion.

As it is now, it's an unwritten rule that anything touching even remotely status quo is bound to run into trouble. I for one like change, but how to come about it in a manner that satisfies all is I'd like to start a discussion. Sort of like "Guide to RP in open ended groups RPs."

Roleplay works both ways, usually it involves -interacting- with the other side, and not making stuff up and then trying to embed the opposition into your plot. That's powergaming, not faction leaders telling you to bugger off because you didn't consult anyone.

Since Alvin's gone to bed, I'll try to field this one as well. Katz has tried to include people in most of the RP stories he's written, including faction leaders. The GZ-Artifiacts RP was discussed with leaders of the Order, Keepers, and SCRA, pretty much the only three factions it included at that time.

Then the RP started growing, with people from all factions coming into it. I'll apologize for Katz that he didn't consult Dab about including the GC after the incident took place by another PLAYER without Katz's knowledge. Instead of crying foul, the players in that drama rolled with it.

Same here, for the most part. Except for Ke Lin's removed assassination, most all of the material is on-the-fly RP. Biggest problem is keeping up with it, I agree. Time zones, real life, other characters, and other things all contribute to this. I've talked with Alvin, and I think we agree that the pace of some people's postings needs to slow down so others can get into the "game", and people will be asked to abide by this.

What I'm surprised about is the rancor this has drummed up as a whole. Trying to throw some unorthodox RP into the game and see what comes up is met with hostility and mud-slinging (I'm guilty of this too, apologies). But...oh right, I forgot.

The problem is not really about if we can or cannot participate in this RP, but that we are forced to play by your rules... This is different than both parties meeting themselves beforehand deciding limits and boundaries in a consensus.

When I look at comments and treads related to the subject, (mainly the one with the court) it just looks like a wild west of RP and non-sense improvisation.

Also.. one point thats been nagging me.. is how there are barely any LPI officers.. on an LPI station... and how a skating rink somehow ended up on a station dedicated to stopping the xenos and lanehackers in the system, and to support Red Deer.

It just.. makes no sense... o.O

Both the LN, LPI, and nearly all factions origionally involved have NPC factions. We do not need a player faction's permission to role play such.

Trouble or not, Katz' RP is Katz' RP. If it poses no threat of change of the storyline or faction, it has no real impact nor' purpose.

It is true however, that such RP should take into consideration previous storylines of other factions. One ex-Coalition commander running for governor in a backwater system, even if he were to win and take it over, wouldn't mean the end of the LN, LPI, or life in general.

The system is based on Canada. It's going to have a skating rink. Moreover, it makes sense with large volumes of workers and families living aboard.

Toronto Station isn't primarily there to stop Xenos, Hackers and help Red Deer, it is there to mine the planet which it orbits and to house corporate workers, miners, civilians and police officers. It just so happens that docking is controlled by LPI.

It only stands to reason that the inhabitants would want entertainment.

Regardless, Joe made the point that new players should not do RP that effects other players until they are more familiar with X Y and Z, yet failed to notice that the post which began what he appears to believe was a descent into powergaming or whatever was made by a player that's been here for a long time, but who happens to be an independent Liberty player.

The RP put forth by arvg had very little effects like this, until his hand was played.

The fact that he made a point of going to an admin to act as a judge, the fact that he tried to involve people instead of excluding them shouldn't be seen as bad, should it?

Or should we only roleplay with a handful of the 200 people that are on the server?
