About how much does it cost to keep the server running monthy? Round $60 like the US server? While I don't support pay to play, if every member of the community donated $5 the server would be set for awhile. Though I am not implying everyone be forced to do so.

Quote:Talk about yourself mate , living in the US ... Where I live, somewhere in the middle of nowhere , $10 is like what I pay for food for 4 days ... so please note that not everyone has the financial background to pay for everything ... not everyone is rich or a kid of rich parents ...

Please quit with the ignorant stereotypes. Just because someone has the ability to pay for a game doesn't make them rich or the spoiled kid of a rich family.

OK, Listen up now ya'll...

[color=#FF0000]STEP AWAY FROM THE INTERNET AND TAKE A DEEP CLEANSING BREATH OF AIR

Ok, done that ? Blood pressure and stress levels approaching normal ?

Fine, then chill out and read what Igiss said a couple of post back:

There is NO plans for making the server into a Pay-to-Play server.

Voluntary donations are welcomed, but not required.

Discovery RP 24/7 WILL prevail, and will be up and running again. It might take a couple of days or more, and the server might or might not be relocated, but it will be returning.

Co-location? If the server's hardware is fine that's usually much, much cheaper.

99 bugs in my Java Code, 99 bugs in my Code,
Fix one bug and compile again,
283 bugs in my Java Code.

My idea was co-location too somewhere in Europe. Germany , Holland or France for around 50-60 euros for 1 gb

Here's what my dad had to say on the subject when he responded to my email:

Depending on what form of DDOS attack it was, depends on if you can ever find them. Recent attacks have been using DNS amplification (basically the attacker uses zombie/bot systems to send multiple DNS queries of a specific type to numerous DNS servers, but using a spoofed source address (the address of the targeted server) the DNS servers then send a reply (very large compared to the query) to the targeted host, flooding the network connection of the server. There are other forms of DDOS, but effectively they all do the same thing, flood the targets network connection so nobody else can connect to it. This is one of the hardest types of attacks to track down, due to the use of zombie/bot systems (all those unprotected windows systems on the internet, or ones that have been compromised by some Trojan via email or a hostile hidden iframe on a web page they visited. As you can attest, you were infected with one a while ago. Thats what I fight day in and day out here at NASA, trying to educate users not to click OK whenever something pops up. The weakest link in computer security is the user. Sorry, but unless the service provider (ISP) wants to get the FBI involved, there is not much youll be able to do, as they are the only ones with the ability to subpoena the logs of all the internet carriers., and they are swamped with more important cases than DDOS attacks. (Banking/identity/credit card theft, etc.)

Our server is kinda like Kenny from South Park. You can shoot it, maim it, and kill it as many time as you want, but it will always show back up later like nothing happened.

While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack
