I may not play, or have a good idea of what's going on... but why don't a group of you just become "police" of sorts(or more accurately... make it your goal in the game to destroy them/cause them trouble XD ). :P
Well, it sounds fun to me anyway.
"My culture is no better than anybody else's culture. My people were no better than anybody else. And yet I will not accept it as a second-class culture. It's my culture. It's the best culture for me. Now, I would expect, if you have a different culture, that you would feel the same about yours as I feel about mine."
There are many options. Pay. Hire an escort and fight. Or buy a battleship and, again, fight. I'm for the balance of powers. There are pirates. Better if there were good guys too. Not the police maybe, just peaceful freelancers who wish to help traders in hauling goods. Or even another pirate group fighting with Terrors for control over certain territories. There are not so many people playing, but still it seems possible to me. And... police is fine too. Did I say police is wrong? No, it's all right if you don't act on behalf of of server administration, if it's roleplaying.
Edit No sorry I'm not encouraging you to form a new pirate group... our server is not enough large to handle two pirate factions, it will become ultimate terror hell for traders I'm afraid... one is enough.

Actually, one is one too many
Right now Ive got around 1 million (give and take a bit), how am I going to earn enough money to buy a capital ship if I'm constantly blown apart?
The NPC pirates I can handle. I know where they are, and I can usually escape. Usually, not always. But at least I feel like I have a chance. I ask again, what chance do I have against a capital ship?
Also, if this was true pirating, then why are the Battleship Terror not affiliated with the pirate fractions? If they were, it would be harder for them to blockade systems as the navy, police and bounty hunters would be all over them. But no, they want the best of both worlds
Also, D-O-S admitted that this was about terrorizing other players. So could we please drop the masquerade and see this for what it is? Its bullying, pure and simple. The members of the Battleship Terror wants a bit of fun, and so they take to pirating other players.
Well, heres a newsflash for you. I do NOT find it very fun to live in constant terror. I do NOT find it fun to be the preything for a group of capital ship.
So, I stand by my earlier statement. If this is to be the future of the Discovery server, then Ill go play Freelancer on other servers where people respect each other and only duel against those whore willing to do so.
No, forget that. I think Ill just uninstall Freelancer and get back to playing Guild Wars instead. At least, in Guild Wars I can decide when, where and if I want to fight against other players

Nobody said anything about another pirate group. The police group (or whatever you would call it) would ONLY be there to deal with pirates (AKA the Battleship Terror), everybody would be left alone. No payment, no bullying, no nothing, just left alone. But the Battleship Terror would be open for attack at any time at any place.
Beware the Lazy Invasion of the Lonely Mudcrab of Doom! Lady Arwen's Realm
Ok first off, my battleship is nowhere near Berlin or Tokyo, and i really don't want to navigate through another 4 asteroid fields with it to get there. So for the time being at least i can't even participate in this blockade.
That being said though, it's an entirely legit enterprise. If you're a small trader in one of the games original stock freighters you have immunity to us, so nobody get's to pull the "i'm just a poor little trader" card. I wouldn't be opposed to a rule adding armored transport to the list of PvP safe vessels since they really don't have much cargo space to speak of, and are poorly armed. But if you're rolling in enough dough to drop 12 million on a large train then you have to accept the responsibility that comes with hauling millions of dollars worth of diamonds through space. That's just life. Try walking through central park (or a seedy populated area in your respective countries) with sacks of money strapped to your back if you want proof of that :-p
There are other planets to trade at if you want to keep the game as bland and uninteresting as possible, we're not likely to chase you accross the entire system for one load of whatever you're carrying. If you want to stay and make a fight of it, i've seen some largr transports with swapped out weapons that would pose a serious health risk to a stock cruiser. Daedalus was right in an earlier post, if you can't handle playing on a server with actual human beings that may not always do exactly what you want them to do, play SP.
This would be a good time to fix the novaslayer though, with the conflict rising here lighter ships really need a way to fight back. The one i bought in the unknown systems is just a rediculously expensive sunslayer. Maybe the damage isn't bugged at other points of sale, but that would be ususual.
You might be right. Piracy is a danger that must be accepted.
What Im against is your reason for doing so. Basically, what youre saying is that you think its boring to fly around, so now you want a bit of fun. And you get this fun by bullying other players
Profile even admitted that money was not the issue. And D-O-S said that the purpose was to terrorize other players. I mean, what the *bib* is that for a purpose? To be as mean to others as possible?
You say that I can simply fly another route. True, but even then Im not safe. Youre saying that any legal target can expect to be engaged and destroyed on sight by any member of the Battleship Terror group. So, am I expected to constantly keep an eye on the users online menu, trying to figure out where you are and where you might be going? If I fail to do so, I run the risk of having a very unpleasant (and probably short) encounter with a capital ship.
Also, xit had a good point earlier on, about blockading planets. What if Im on one of those planets youre currently blockading? What chance do I have of getting away? You, the Battleship Terror group, can effectively shut down an entire system. Wheres the fun in that for us traders?
My point is: this might be fun to you, but not to me. If you think that fighting is fun, then why dont you simply leave traders alone? When I get a ship of Gunboat class or larger, Id happily indulge and give you some fun read: a fight. But until then, please leave me to my business

By the way, what do you plan to do once you've got the ship you wanted, and more than enough money in your pockets?

Well, Ive always wanted to explore all of the gameworld. I tried it after completing SP, but found that, even with a fully equipped Titan, it was dangerous business.
Once Ive done that, I certainly wouldnt mind having a big battleship battle. That would be cool
