I never said all Independants are a problem. I stated the majority of independants are. If you aren't breaking the rules, then you have nothing to worry about regarding stiffer penalties for doing so. I play an Independant myself, and plan to continue playing it. The fact that some independants refrain from abusing the system does not change the fact that most do abuse it. If the only way to stop that abuse is to limit the abillity of all independants to do so, then I, as an indie player, accept that. I would rather have an immersive story and role play community than the ability to fly a battleship. I would rather have a rule abiding community that interacts with each other than the abillity to fly a cruiser. Most characters should not have a capital ship anyway. Capital ships are supposed to be few and far between, not flying around Sirius in groups like fighter wing.

It's not the ones who don't read the rules that are the big problem. All you have to do to stop the majority of those kinds of oorp violations is tell the player to stop and that they are breaking a rule and can be banned for it. Nintey percent of the time, they stop. It's the established players who deny the fact that they are breaking rules and the ones that do so to get things they normally could not.
Ivan,
Monetary rewards are really counterproductive. It is already to easy to gather the credits neaded to buy the best equipment. I noted in an earlier post that in an hour and a half a brand new player can make a million credits. An established character makes anywhere from ten million and up a run. That means using only the easy short runs a player can gather two hundred million in around twenty trips. Any faster and you may as well hand out capital ships at character creation. I applaud the fact that your are seeking solutions, but monetary rewards are not it.

Why? Because it would raise the economy level? Perhaps you didn't read my previous post where I indicated how more money to faction as a legal entity offers numerous ways for introducing new things into gameplay.
factions gather more money than non faction players, the government takes money from factions to pay lawfuls, the lawfuls protect the traders.
No, I'm not against stimulating a flagging economy. But with the new trade routes and mining runs, the economy in-game is anything but flagging. If they wanted to, official factions could easily gather the money to pay governments to protect them. The problem here is that the lawfuls should already be protecting lawful faction members. So an increased bank account to pay the governments to do so would not be a reward for the official factions nor a curb to ooc violations. It's a nice idea for expanded roleplay, but I cannot see it helping solve the problems we face here.

well can you sum it up for me what do official factions need? except members. of if you agree that the goal is members, then how to attract them (not coarse them into joiining or force them)
I honestly don't know. What I do know is that more money isn't the answer. My characters are realatively poor by server standards, and yet I have no problem at all purchasing whatever strikes my fancy. If my faction put out a call for credits I could easily hand them eight to ten million every day I played. Here are a few Ideas that I have thought on, I kept them diliberately vague.
1) More toys. There are two ways to go about this. Either, develope new weapons and shields
that can only be used by official faction members, or, limit a few already developed weapons
and shields to official faction members.
2) More ships. This can be accomplished in the same two ways as the above.
Regardless of what option we go with, the Independants are going to be limited in the fact
that they cannot have access to some things. If the admins and the community really intend
to reward the official factions they are just going to have to put up with the Independants
cries of distress. Keep in mind, if players aren't saying, "Dang, I'd join a faction for
that." It's not really a reward.

both things you are suggesting take alot of modeling / admin work.
that's the drawback. And unless admis are ready to go that extra mile and allow cargo over 5000 i don't know how could corporate factions benefit from that.
For developing new stuff, yes, there is a lot of work involved. However, changing existing equipment so it can only be accessed and used by official factions would take far less. Yes, the Independants will yell and scream if the equipment is changed like that. But they are going to complain about any decent reward the official factions get. I say, move top level shields and weapons to official factions only. I'd rather give capital ships to official factions only, because that way the Independants would find it easier to be competitive with the VHF's and Bombers that they could still fly. It we move all the top level equipment, though, the Independants still have access to the ship lines, they just won't be able to outfit them with the best weapons and shields.

Actually, I agree with you. We don't need anything new. I only included the possibillity of new shinies because it's likely that the Independants will complain less about the official factions getting something new than if something old was limited to official factions only.

The problem is, that is not the only way to solve the situation. It just happens to be the easy way out and can be easily abused.
If you want lower capital ship numbers, do not fly one yourself. This mod has capital ships and anyone that can role-play one deserves an equal opportunity to fly it. We have enough restricted content as is.
