This strange questions came up my mind quite early when I was a young recruit in the [RM]
On discovery promotions dont take 5 years or more.
You get promoted in a fast way and in certain cases its a rocket career.

Admiral Malte is maybe one of the best examples.
this character was made with the age of 18. Bloody young, not experienced and ready to serve Rheinland.

Suddenly I found her at the Rank of a Feldwebel at the age of 18.
A few months later Leutnant or Oberleutnant.
I had to change her age to 24, because it does not make any sense in terms of RP, to have a 18 year old Flag officer within the ranks.
She needs to be experienced and that is what you clearly don't have at the age of 18. Experience.

Now she is Admiral for quite a while now and I aged her a little bit again. 28 years. Still bloody young for an Admiral though.
The common Admiral is around the fifties, or the rocket careers around the fourties.

There is no simple explanation why a 28 year girl could make Admiral. Especialy Fleet Admiral in her case.
So what do you think? Should we age our characters in such cases?

In your case, I would set it to ~40 or 45 as the youngest option.

50 - 60 would also fit.

And pray to Igiss, that no 25-year-jump takes place.

I played Dr. Samuel Sprolf's timeline through with some time compression - he left Bretonia and Liberty within a few months of each other, but it was, within roleplay, within a few years of each other.

So, I think sometimes it's best to place experiences a lot farther apart than they actually happened, especially for cases like yours above. You can shrug off the effect on others' RP with retconning or being rather vague.

Well Virus put you in command, cause you were the most active and most dedicated player of the RM, and had the respect of all its members.
Not necessary your character, an "under age" admiral is not very RP, so id say, make her older.
Dont know how old admirals are usually, never meet one, but some grey hair is mandatory i guess.

This is a good topic, why the flood?

I'd say, instead of altering the future, change the past.

How bout moving her join date/promotions back in time some, so even if she was 18 less than a year ago, say it was around 790ish....

Not that many people pay much attention nowadays.

Old makes more sense, it's cool to have Hale being the youngest in history *blah blah*, but not for every Admiral or whatever...

Well, the Recruit isnt getting a promotion because he grows up. The recruit earns it with his knowledge and stuff. I think Napoleon was actually fairly new. Remember the Egypts, their Pharaos were children.

Thanks for your replies gentlemen.
Makes my decision a bit more easy.
I think if I age her, she will be around 40 to 44.

Makes sense and I can still work with the events. A rocket career to Admiral is surely possible at the age around the mid fourties.
Good relations and friends in special places could advance the climbing up.
Maybe I consider this into the changed background of her.

Why Flood? Simple. This way I get the attention of interested people, not meaningless posts to achieve a simple +1.
Reverse psychology:D

EDIT: Oh dear! Real magic in this post. Not only magically changing ages. Even changing places in the forum as well.

we must keep in mind that space is dangerous place to be. And in rp the most pilots shouldn't be very old since.. they all should die sooner or later. Remember those stories about incivncible warriors? Masters of martial arts and samurais, legends and such. Oh the thing is they never existed. Everyone died eventually.

Well now perhaps for LPI officer it isin't a big problem or a big chance to die, but let's say for some corsair whos life is like spartan one (the boy (i have belief that girls too) is trained from youth) doesn't live long at all. Becouse they get hell much expierence, and most of the dies becouse of it. Expierence, not age is what it counts, and since our characters are those legendary warriors who never dies some sort off, we have justification for higher ranks.

if they survive, well they might be promoted.

Some good concerns there ... where did it ran?. Thanks.

I believe in the Military there are things a bit different. Life is not without danger, especialy in space. Though I think it isnt as dangerous as a criminals life.

When hitting the rank of an Flag officer you tend to stay out of the big mess.
You are valuable for the chain of command, keeping up the flow of orders and such.

Flag officers soon serve onboard a bigger vessel like a Cruiser or a Battleship to gain the needed abilities.
The leading skills still already got developed in the field when beeing part of Wrath patrols. The officer ranks are for this.

I always tried to let the other pilots do the "dirty" work if they are not needed in Admiral Maltes additional guns.
Makes it more authentic.
I dont stay out of every trouble though. Depends on situation and RP.

Also there is enough room for editing her career a bit.
28 and 44 is a large gap. So she was out in the mud with her Wrath, eating dirt.
Working herself up to get her own leader wings to finaly reach an Flag officer rank.

Since Admiral Krieger cared a lot about Leutnant Malte back the good old days, I could easily say I was under his command on the Ravensburg.
beeing part of the bridge crew, learning from him and the other higher ranks.

Until the point when reaching Kapitaen and beeing able to command her own Cruiser, she could have served under Krieger on the Ravensburg. Maybe beeing his XO for quite a while too.

When retirement caught Admiral Krieger, she was promoted to fill the missing rank in the military. Especialy the rank of the Fleet Admiral. (which is not a seperate rank inside the RM, but thats another thing)

Hmm I somehow like messing with Admiral Maltes story a bit.

Now I've made it. My "Aging" thread morphed to a character-story-development topic.

Welcome to Sirius.

LPI had a deputy chief who was 28 years old. I don't see any problem with it, so I voted no need to age. But you can age her if you want.
