Why yes, I do think it's dumb. But they apparently have convinced enough people it works to exist. At least they don't base themselves in Liberty space.
I wasn't aware of the merc group, so don't panic, the name's easily changed and will be done so, without complaint or any trouble. As for making it official, we're almost done. Still having some issues in working out the IFFs, zone of influence, diplomacy and a roster for the (current, small group) of members.
We've worked out what ships and equipment to use, most of the faction rules, ranks and the like. So yes, I have read the faction creation request page.
As for what the group is based on, well, guerrilla factions like the Rhodesian Blacks, Che Guevara's Guerrilla tactics, those sorts of things.
It's early days yet guys, but I shall do my best to refine it into a more workable idea!
I don't see why I should be critacised for a group that fights the government. After all, how many factions are there for fighting pirates? Or trading? Or exploring? It's hard to find an original idea in a community that's been around for so long, I will admit. While that may seem lacking in imagination, I can assure you I'll be doing all I can to make sure it's heavily RP driven by all participating members.

Look, the properly Liberty Navy RP is to show up with overwhelming force to respond to any enemies, so there is minimal chance of losing a simgle Liberty ship. In the interests of fair play people voluntarily restrict themselves.
Also, I am quite certain that the battleship you are speaking of was an indy. Nothing you can really do about those. And are you saying that one indy battleship represents the whle of Liberty lawful players?

No need to rush that mate. They never were official faction, so they dont have that name covered. And they are more less inactive, so feel free to name your faction however you want.

Hawkwings, I'm glad you've taken such interest, but please, unless you have something with a useful critique or poignant to say I think it would be best if you kept your opinions to your self for the sake of not cluttering up the board with pointless posts. Nay say all you want, the faction request will be put forward regardless after I get in touch with other faction members, some of which we already have the approval of.

As a "Zoner", I don't usually comment on creation thingies, because we're always listed as neutral, and that pretty much is the information the Zoners really give a care about.
I take such interest because I feel that this faction is simply no more than a flimsy excuse to go PEWPEWLOLZ Liberty lawfuls with minimal justification required. As that is really my only point to make and I've already said it, I'll go ahead and step out of this thread.
I'm not opposed to new pirate groups or anything, however, I think there are a couple things that should be considered before following through with this here idea.
A: The 'Reaver' name is already taken, so you may wish to find something that isn't already taken.
B: Declaring open war on the Navy whilst operating mainly within the House (Country) that they are tasked with defending, is not wise.
Think of it like this, say a group forms in the United States and goes out and starts attacking US Military bases in the United States, it does not end well. Now just replace United States with "Liberty" and US Military with "Liberty Navy" and you have yourself a good idea of how things will go.
Of course, you can be an enemy of the group and all that, but you honestly shouldn't go out of your way to throw your people at the Navy, because that's effectively a small group of pirates throwing themselves at the Military that defends an entire nation, not smart. only group in Liberty that really goes out of it's way to do things like that is the Hellfire Legion, because they have the resources to carry out an operation of such scale.
You really shouldn't see a small group of pirates trying that sort of thing...

That's just my opinion though, you can do with it as you wish.
