He realized he still had his hands firmly on her shoulders, and pulled them away slowly. Shaking his head and then placing his hands in his pockets.

"Yeah, I've been getting that pilot gut instinct. Haven't felt safe since I got into this room." He shrugged a bit. "No doubt the guardsmen upstairs will keep this secured." He mumbled glancing up and catching the grip of a weapon from one of the undercover guards.

Though when he glanced back to see where Lafiel was, he noticed that she had disappeared, oddly enough right in front of him. He glanced around quickly until his eyes fell upon a suspicious looking couple and Lafiel.

That's partly when it dawned on him. "Bah! My date!" he shouted, though not as loudly, nearly out of surprise bringing his hand up to his face and sighing heavily. He turned towards the front doors and proceeded towards them, pushing his way through the crowd.

"- Kashiwaba, please !" he said, half blushed, looking around and hoping no VIP heard that typical lack for etiquette.

After finishing his glass of Rheinland beer, Aleski removed his dress cap, running his fingers through his hair. He seemed amused by Tomoe's rejection of societal norms.

"Haha... I must say, I like the way you think, Kashiwaba."

The ensign then looked at his surroundings. Bretonian aristocracy is pretty flashy... hard getting used to it..., he thought.

Tomoe put her hands on her hips and spoke in a slightly raised voice.

" Thank you Alexi............. as for you Martin............ dont you 'Kashiwaba' me. Besides, isn't smashing chairs over people's heads what consists of a good time in the bar on the Derby ................ "

Tomoe slightly pouted, as if in thought as several nearby people laughed at the comment.

" Or was that Arranmore and I was just too drunk to tell the differnce ? "

Blake Owen stepped through the door, dressed tall in a regal looking commodore's uniform, fitted with identical chevrons on each side and a few well-polished metals across the chest. He removed his hat and handed his overcoat to a nearby servant.

Veteran pilots knew where the action was going to be, a sixth sense that developed over time and in combat patrols. The sense seemed to carry over into other areas of a pilot's life. Blake made up his mind to introduce himself to the other partygoers and wish Miss Lafiel a happy birthday. He also heard some Libertonians were in attendance and he hoped to chat about recent house developments. However, he would soon be heading to the Mansion's annex, where his senses told him there would be plenty to do.

The bar.

"Here you are madam."

Evelyn Foster sighed and took the chauffeur's proffered hand, as she assumed was proper. Stupid nobles with their stupid courtesy. As she stood she saw Austin Goodmen come rushing out of the front door with a look that suggested he forgot something..

She knew what he forgot. She began heading his way when he noticed her and started rushing over. As he caught up with her, a few feet from the black car that had brought her there, he scratched the back of his head and a silly grin appeared on his face. The indecency made her grimace on the inside. Austin held his hand out to her as he said; "Sorry, I completely forgot you were coming! Thankfully the driver was able to pick you up."

She gave him a dull glare. "You forgot to pay him before sending him off to get me. Moron." Austin looked shocked for a few seconds, then had that guilty look when someone just did something stupid and got caught. "Uhh, umm.. Sorry..."

"Coming out of your pocket.." She turned a bit and held her arm out to the side. Austin didn't quite seem to know what to do for a moment, then hesitantly slid his arm through hers for the proper escorting pose. She said, softly, "If you're going to make me come to this bloody thing, at least act like you fit in here. Hell, you fit in more than I do, but I'm the one who feels like she's escorting the bumbling fool... And I think I'm going to kill you for making me wear this damn thing." By that she referred to the black and red dress he had sent along with the car. Being what she was, a mercenary born to a Junker, dresses weren't what she was used to wearing, let alone owning one.. She felt decidedly uncomfortable in the formal clothing, especially once that made her look like a half-empty, walking wine bottle...

He didn't respond as he led her up the steps and into the building, which turned out to be crowded with extravagantly-dressed men and women with a haughty air about them. Her insecure feelings over her own clothing faded away as she saw how some people were dressed in such excessively complex and overdone dresses and suits that they bordered on what she would call 'fairyland outfits'. The riot of colors being swished around as people moved and gestured was so hideously obnoxious that it was painful.

Why the hell did I agree to do this?

As she looked around, the only person she did recognize was Liberty's Fleet Admiral Hale, whom she had only met sporadically while doing work for the Navy. At least there is no sign of Ms. Princess yet.. I'm not sure I'm quite ready to start working yet..

Jacob was still sitting near the bar, drinking his scotch and watching the crowd. He was quite sick of all the nobles around, and more were coming. He saw an odd pair walk in a while before. A beautiful woman with a man, though he never seen them before. He was quite sure he'd remember a woman like that, but then, he didn't know all the nobles, he thought to himself.

Soon, he decided it'd be better to find someone to talk with. But first, he was trying to find young Lafiel to wish her happy birthday. As he was looking into the crowd, he found her. One of the nobles, some older man, was talking with her. Jacob couldn't recognize the man, though he was sure he must've seen him before. Lafiel looked a bit frightened - obviously she wasn't enjoying it, even though she was a noble herself. The man gave her something, Jacob couldn't recognize what it was. He assumed it was some kind of present.

When he decided to go and talk with the Countess now when she was free, someone pushed him hard. He looked around and saw the man that was trying to hide before again. Now he could recognize who it was.

"Goodmen!"

He shouted loudly enough so he could hear him. But Goodmen didn't stop - he just rushed outside. Jacob sighed. And then he sighed again when he found out that he lost sight of Lafiel again.

"Just great.", he muttered for himself, and headed back to the bar.

On his way there he recognized a man in BAF uniform. Jacob looked at him and nodded.

"Greetings, Commodore Owen."

Lafiel felt Goodmen's hands leave her shoulders as she attentively listened to him, she was amazed that such a person of bravery and strong character would feel uneasy and on edge at a party feeling something similiar to the way she felt. Her innocent smile covering the astonishment of her words.

She felt herself suddenly being steered away leaving Goodmen to be alone suddenly the hand that was on her shoulder was unyielding and strong so she offered little resistance. When she looked to see whom the person she suddenly found manouvering her to an empty corner of the room. She was surprised to find that it was Oliver Drasek the Tarrant family's chamberlain come undercover MI5 agent in his old butler disguise which was flawless this night his face looked aged as did his grey hair. As she looked at him for a hint of what was on his mind his face was neutral an impassive but she knew she was about to be scolded she could feel it coming and see it in his eyes, she braced herself.

"What on earth do you think your doing young lady! Acting in such a poor fashion with such atrocious actions befitting your place in society. By gosh hugging people in public but no less than a lesser commoner who has been dragged into your party inapropriately dressed and is by far distatefully below your status!" Scolded Oliver in a whisper which felt to Lafiel just as nerve racking if not more so than when he was yelling at her which was truely terrifying. Lafiel became withdrawn her face frowning, "Oliver it's my birthday I can hug whom ever I so choose and do as I wish." Oliver's eyes hardened Lafiel could tell he was really angry with her his response was sharp, "You will behave according to that of the nobility young lady and behave yourself. Such actions affect the publics opinion of you and shame you oh an of course imagine should any of the press be present here this eve and word or lies be spun about you. Oh let alone the security risk what if someone had a concealed weapon you would be such a prize picking being such a harmless innocent girl. Now please stop acting so innocently naive and wake up, act apropriately."

Lafiel was amazed he really ever told her off for as long as she had been alive only when she was young and would have gotten her dress dirty or created any mischief with her brother. She pondered his words a moment then could not bring herself to resist the temptation she suddenly stepped into him wraping her arms around the old man in a warm hug. As she did so she gave him a quick peck on the cheek and put her lips right next to his ear even though she was straining for height against this extremely tall man she whispered into his ear, "I love you Oliver I really do you have been nothing but a loyal member of my familities household for many years before I was born and I oh you my life on what would be more than one occasion I do believe but please don't lecture me not this evening just let your extremely prissy prim an proper nature slide a little so that I might enjoy myself and hug my friends if I so desire." She felt strong hand pry her hands an arms from around him Oliver was not as gentle as he normally was she suddenly found herself facing the crowd his hands firmly clasped on her as he knelt his head to her left ear to anybody else in the room it would look just as if the Chamberlain was advising her some secret words meant for her ears only. "Countess you will at the very least refrain from hugging your servants do I make myself clear. I will only do this once for you as it is your party should something happen from your actions tonight I will make sure they have no ill affect against you but please limit your hugs and your touchy feely affections to a minimum. Especially in regards to servants you will not be able to hug them all an such an act would show favouritism or hint at other less savoury things now. Off you go now." Oliver's hands didn't release her shoulders there was obviously more he had to be said as she waited curiously wondering if his fingers would leave red marks on her alibaster skin even the lightest of holds seemed to do such things. "Oh I do believe you haven't spoken with those two over there they will surely surprise you I'm sure you will be most pleased when you realise whom the gentleman is. They both are probably a tie for the most dangerous thing in this room at the moment with the oddly dressed man and that woman over there but don't worry I don't believe the former is here for any unsociable reasons." Lafiel almost felt the smile in his voice the change in his mood as he suddenly gentely pushed her in the direction of the two people she hadn't introduced herself to.

Lafiel gracefully walked over to the couple even though she had been propelled as the man opened his mouth and spoke introducing himself, Lafiel's face exploded in emotion and shock there was all manner of questions that popped into mind but most of all was the shock that Oliver knew about her trip to the restaurant recently. She knew without a doubt she stood under the gaze of Salazaar Kithe and she returned his gaze without a hint of fear.

Lafiel was taken a back in awe by the presents the Kithes had given her they had exscused themselves and she immediately ran upstairs to her room and put necklace on in front of the mirror of her dresser. The gold necklace the diamonds and the dark red rubies amazed her she put the ring of hers and the box it was in somewere safe no one would touch it and raced back downstairs just as a butler announced the arrival of Admiral hale she spotted him from afar as she descended the Grand Staircase and headed towards him. It felt strange to have such a heave necklace around her neck she had never worn anything like this before in her life she was truely captivated as she manouvered around the two strange looking nobles whom Oliver had depicted to her as on par with the kithes for there danger which she wondered to herself what one noble might do to another. Her thoughts which were racing with joy an excitement steadied and cleared as she neared the admiral her head cleared and she remembered herself as she approached to welcome him and his date Lafiel guessed.

"Carter, good to see you, and under much more civilized terms."

They had last met after repulsing a Kusari offensive, leaving little time for small talk.

Jacob took a seat at the bar stool. Blake asked "Need a drink?"

Jacob nodded "Aye"

"Bartender, a scotch for myself and the commander, if you will."

While the drinks were being poured Jacob asked Blake where the birthday girl was. Neither one knew but both agreed that she would pass through the bar eventually, so they should stay there for awhile and cut themselves off from the aristocrats in the ball room.

"Keeping ourselves away from senile ninety-year-old nobles asking for tales of the front and telling me how to win the war is a sacrifice I must make. I hope you will stay with me and endure, Mr. Carter."

The servant dashed back with his precious cargo and gave it to the lady in obvious pain.
Lucy popped three tablets from the packet of Panamol and swallowed them at once with the entire contents of her second flute of Champaign.
Although this distressed the member of staff greatly (one tablet was the maximum per day) he said nothing and wandered back to the kitchens.

The Commander leant cradling her head until the pain subsided. She always felt sick and her concentration was poor afterwards. She saw the BAF Commander Goodmen leaning against the wall further up. She decided it was best to pretend to be involved; she didnt want to draw any attention to her state.

Goodmen stood out, to say the least, his casual clothing a stark contrast to the expensive suits that had been chosen by the other men. The blatant refusal to associate with any Nobles stood him apart.
She was about to move over when the belated Miss Araluen leapt upon him in an embrace. The look on the Armed Forces Commander added to the giddy state inflicted by the Panamol overdose culminated in a small laughing fit. No one saw this however. She didnt like people to think she had a sense of humour, it would slacken the iron grip she had over the subordinates in the BPA.

She went to interrupt but a burst of static in her ear halted her. The effect of the noise sent her mind spinning and she collapsed against the wall again.
Lucy shook her head and pushed a finger against the tiny communicator.
Sykes what the hell do you want? She growled through gritted teeth.
If ya going to be like tha I wont tell you! the Constable whispered. You wont believe who I just saw up on the balcony.
If you answer more security I will remove Price from latrine duty and assign you.
Ordinarily Sykes would chuckle at something like this, he didnt.

Remember last time you went psycho during a migraine?
The Commander scowled I wouldnt put it in such terms but yes.
And you told me about Morgan?
She felt a slight chill pinch the back of her neck.

Inspector Morgan was, to be fair, a rather scary man. At first he had made her a little uncomfortable with his piercing stares and the fact he seemed to be following her. Then she started finding bugs in her apartment and in her office, and not the creep crawly kind at that. She knew something was going on and Morgan was her prime suspect.

Well it looks like you were right; hes up here on the balcony with what looks like some grappling gear. Check yourself for bugs before you reply.
The fact that he was here made her feel all the more that the sallow skinned inspector was indeed spying on her.
She did a quick and discrete search but never thought once to look at the slim necklace around her neck. If she had scrutinised it carefully she would have noticed that it was not the gift her mother had given her on her departure to the BPA but a cleverly constructed copy with a tiny microphone in it.

Keep an eye on him Sykes, she said I am going to speak with our beloved hostess and then we will leave.

Silsbury caught Miss Tarrant just as she finished welcoming Admiral Hale of the Liberty Navy.
Miss Tarrant, She said through a false smile, emboldened by the excess chemicals in her system.
Do stop and have a chat!

"Definitely, Commodore", Jacob smiled.

"Have you seen our Lieutentants and Ensigns? Last time I saw them here, they were talking with some young Kusari woman. I'm surprised they've let her in. I have no idea who it is, but these times, you can't believe anyone. The amount of nobles and other important people here in one place...", Jacob glanced into the crowd behind them,"...Something is telling me that things could get very... 'interesting'."

Jacob drank half of his scotch.

"Maybe I am just nervous of these nobles, but little precaution won't hurt anyone, right?"
