I just dislike one thing Grimly / Vilkas / Karolis.
All three of you as probably most respected members in Sails| should work hard towards removing one terrible thing from the Corsairs. - Piracy.
(WUT!?)
Look, here's the deal and lets be honest about it. Corsairs aren't pirates. Pirates don't have government, councils, elders and damn police + punishment and laws. They don't. Pirates operate by a code, and when code is broken they kill the code breaker.
Corsairs are an unlawful house. They are big, possibly the biggest criminal organization in whole Sirius and that makes you, as the Corsair players - Criminals. Not pirates.
Someone will say now "same difference". No, it is not.
Why do Corsairs take things from people within their ZoI?
They do it because Corsairs believe that whole Omegas + Cambridge (sigmas) are their territory as well. Why would someone be able to cross their territory and get away without Corsairs making profit from it.
I know you three know about this, but others don't.
I saw a man stopping an BMM transport full of military vehicles.
He asked them BMM where is the cargo going. BMM said Leeds.
Corsairs proceeded to tax him for 2 millions. If we had a council and a magistrate then, I would report the guy for treason, after I shot him down.
Corsairs are greedy, but they also should have a sense of nationhood. Ofcourse you'll let that military convoy pass if they bribe you with... 3 times of what you usually take, but if they don't they will lose it all.
I don't know why is it so hard for people to understand that Corsairs are a house, with their laws and breaching their laws is same as breaching Liberty laws with Cardamine. You will drop it, and pay the fine or get shot.
Please, please work hard to make people realize why are you taking their cargo, because if you're a simple pirates, please take the appropriate ID and do not stain the Corsair one with such acts.
Since you are the most numerous and most active corsair faction now, it is your duty to make sure people learn this.
Ivan@: I remeber one [WDR] guy (some zoner trading group now it's dead) who called OPG Corsairs, denied the fact that we are pirates. And said like "you are a house not pirates". After I sent screens to Gentle the WDR guy as placed to KoS list or to "Pirate hard"
Yes. Corsairs are far from being just pirates. And no-one is claiming elseway. But now lets see what Corsairs do. Mainly Exortion and smuggling to fuel their survival. Now you called the Corsairs house criminal one, if you see it so highly governed then we aren't criminal house. It depends from what point you view. From Corsair perspective to make such acts is all lawful. From Bretonian point of view will be opposite.
Now about current goverment. Hmm I don't view Corsairs like having a well advanced jurisdiction. They are only at start of it. Corsair well-being is based on individual eager to gain more. Ussaly, which sometimes leads even into fights one agianst another and that totaly in rp from my point ofview, ofcourse we have id restrictions and such. But personaly I had fights between other corsairs for being able to pirate in omega 3 tradelane, and what can i tell you, that was really nice rp and nice encounter. Even if I lost being snaced by alpha later.
Now what touches piracy. Yes corsairs are not only pirates yes. But we settled around this branch of activity. It doesn't mean we do not fight OC, keep hessians out, or make diplomatic nagionations or make trade treaties. We are into it, but just focused on one subject more than others. While other COrsair factions are focused on other subejcts, like Benitez being mostly diplomatic nature. My character sees them as noble ones who had all round good education.
About attempts to make Corsairs more like a house. Personaly, I dislike it. It will tear down everything fun of being a corsair. But hope that won't happen due Corsair lore.
United we stand agianst common enemies. Individually we fight for our personal wealth. Of course every corsair has an Empire in his mind, so do we, but not forget that attitude that personal gain is important for Corsair too.
Edit: I personaly see corsairs as a huge barberian tribe to compare with rl. And for your informations barbarians had law system and courts, but it wasn't that advanced.
You might ask "how barbarians can built such warships" oh Vikings were best shipbuilders for quite a time in europe, and first reached north america (now day canada cost) colonized Grendlania and more (climate changed, moderate tempretore went down, before that grendlania was green island which was suitable for farming and stockbreeding. From here comes skandinavian name which translated means Green-Land). Corsairs makes raiding parties and invasions into houses, similiar like barbaric tribes did in major nation movement durning fall of rome period.
But well this is my personal view which is not backed behind with any clear disco information or infrocards.
For the same reason I see outcast house more advanced. As well as other houses. But well I like playing a barbarian.
I actually think that difference between a Corsair and a Liberty Rogue is like difference from Kusarian farmer and Snyth food corporate worker.
HUGE.
It saddens me that the image of Corsair nation is being formed on the fact that they are pirates and that they pirate for their living.
Actually thats minority of population. Most of the population probably works for a living and food in one of the factories or ore mines in the Crete, or works on the stations and construction yards and shipyards.
The pirates therefore aren't pirates. I'ld compare our "claiming of cargo" more to Rheinland official taking goods from Liberty because of embargo than to Liberty Rogue and Lane Hacker targeting ships in Liberty.
Your branch of activity shouldn't be called piracy, because when you are a pirate you are taking something that doesn't belong to you. In Corsair's mind, those goods belong to him and he's far from being a pirate.
When someone greets me with "hello Corsair pirate" I usually respond with few gunshots.
Alright, you are not corsair pirate, but do not deny the fact that there is Corsair pirates. Don't try to trow your point of view or your roleplay to others.
And Corsairs.. are far far from well organised house like Liberty in terms of organisation and jurisdiction. And if it would become such I would propably quite playing as a Corsair.
ANd yes they do construct, they do mine and such. But .. heh. From their homeworld they do not have what much to mine or offer. Rememeber the story how artifacts became popular? That freelancer guy?
"Corsairs haven't much to offer but artifacts"
Most of the population... Hm. I don't know about that. Propably you right, but the diffrent thing is. Corsairs do not have military. Actually each citizen is a militant ready to fight. Since every corsair is trained similiar like spartans were in Greek times. (That trial of 16 years old kid being sent in a ship without a shield? for example) Almost each person has a ship to fly too.
And I started to see Ivan that you want Corsairs to be something like organised house, and just becouse you want to see it like that, don't like others who do not want to play in that manner.
Also, keep in mind that vanila fl developers didn't gave diffrent military faction to Corsairs. Neither corporations neither well discribed goverment model. Corsairs are only advancing into well organised house at the givem moment. But are far from being a such.
Now back to comapre with Vikings or other barbarian tribes. Where actually was barberians who were farming, woodchoping and such. But as well were those marauders who made raids and robbed other nations at the sea costs. Even settled their own countries there. We are playing those marauders in rp as sails. ANd Viking marauders were Vikinngs, not just petty highway men you tried us to compare to.
Actually they don't have much to offer, but they do build ships and they do construct things, and there's a whole society down there on that planet.
That's far from Kurile planet where Samura extracts alien organisms - few platforms and that's about it.
There's people living working and dying down on the planet and surviving in the harsh conditions.
Corsairs can't offer their ships to liberty because that doesn't work, they cant project a civilian shipline because they are considered "unlawful" by the four houses (since thye're in war with 2).
But corsairs have much to offer to their allies, don't forget that.
I am not pushing my style of roleplay, I'm pushing for the official faction such as your own to represent the Corsair in much more than just a pirate.
Would your guy turn its head for 2million and let 4k blood diamonds walk away? No?
Why would it do the same for a BMM transporting military vehicles then since people in liberty actually won't throw blood diamonds on us, but when / if Corsairs land on Cambridge those vehicles will surely fire upon us. (just because they're sold at leeds doesn't mean cambridge has only flowers to defend itself with)
We are not playing just pirates. Why I need to quote myself. yes we focus on pirating role. But we do not limit ourselves only to it. And what you are telling here is already being done.
Bakamono, we do not dock in Atka, we have no deals with them. I won't even protest if one of my members get punished because he docked in Atka. Their business is still in our interest, but I point the post of Curios. We are playing as corsairs, not idiots.
Ivan, we know how a corsair should run
- We are at war in Bretonia and Rheinland, we should not even ask for anything, we should take even without asking. Our best way to remove the opponent military forces is to destroy the economy it make their government going well. Without military, the systems are ours with a very little army like a Legate, two destroyers and their escort. The normal invasion fleet in other words.
The rules don't let us do it. So we make it a hard piracy because we have no other choice.
- In the sigmas, we look for increasing our economy and for this, we must disrupt the already established routes to turn them toward our own bases. Lot of them refuses, even the Cryers (Yes, we have Leon base it will buy your pharmaceuticals to cure the radiations). The OSC is almost an exception in that rule in the fact their economy their are based on is not in any of our interest. We even have a under-the-table deal as well as the Black Dragons for the artifact black market transition to Kusari. In practical terms, we don't even touch anymore the OSC IDed and Tagged ships carrying people and ask taxes or route changes to any others.
A government, whatever his form, need credits to run, that's a condition for the Corsair nation can continue. We run on this business.
By the way, I agree sometimes some of us see it like a simple piracy with 2M fee to everyone. The rule 0.0 is a nightmare for non-experimented.
People work on Crete for resources, yes. but those have to be:
a) exchanged for something else (ie artifact smuggling, protection of zoner territory)
b) stolen (ie piracy)
The Empire's populace is rising - in order to gain resources to exchange for food or food itself something has to be stolen, since we cannot produce so much. Corsair live on what .. 4 planets altogether? Other than that it's just bases without biodomes (btw why the hell didn't someone steal this tech from synth food or the zoners yet?). Corsairs are, more than anything else, a PROUD NATION. Like that they will not knee down before any other house to gain some leftover resources. They will just take it from others.
Look at Crete. Even from the orbit you can see you DON'T want to live there. If you are growing up on Crete, you are lucky if you survive your initiation right. Find artifacts in an irradiated nebula - this has a reason. And that reason is that the Empire cannot supply itself sufficiently. It's cannon, and that's why Corsairs are who they are.
On top of that, they are at war with multiple houses and factions. Heck, the corsairs are surrounded by enemies - Outcasts, Hessians, Brets, Rheinland, Kusari.. You name it. In war, you take everything you can get your hands on. It's not that much about profit, like survival. Furthermore, intercepting enemy shipments and using them in your own campaign can gain you the upper hand. The Corsairs are pirates, Ivan. They are bad people, but they have a good reason for that - continuance of their bloodline.
Ivan I get your point (i think) and there were many times I tried to do something different than just taking cash or cargo. Like rerouting a transport or get some sort of deal from it for the Corsair bases. You should know, you helped me once with the shipment of food from Omega 7 to <wherever you took it>.
