In light of the recent rejections, I took them to heart, and concept arted and statted a Heavy Cruiser for the Kusari House.
Kusari Front Holder
Compared to the Kusari Destroyer:
+Armor
+Size
-Agility
+Powercore
Breaking the Kusari tradition of speed and agility in light of their Destroyers being too fragile to stand against Bretonian bombers, Kishiro was commissioned to design a heavier cruiser that would be able to stand up to the punishment that would be thrown at them by enemy torpedoes.
The -X- is the answer to that call. Boasting a heavier armor plating, increased powercore for shielding, the -X- stands alongside battleships to hold the line in key battles. It's fearsome visage (Will be covering it in mean, scary spikes on the front, and engines) gives the appearance of an ancient demon, coming to consume all opposition to the will of the Emperor
I am planning on taking the Kusari Destroyer, size up the model, and begin adding armor plating to thicken it, and modify the front 'axe' head of the model to be a bit like the 'mouth' of the SJ Sathanas from Freespace and the center of that will be the forward gun. The back will have 'teeth'-spikes around the engine.
The idea is a "Forward Punch" -SUPPORT- ship with 12 Forward facing turrets, two forward guns and the power to reliably fire them. Rubbish turning and flank cover. The point of this ship is to provide some good anticapital support, but only support. Bombers would be the end of this thing.
Rheinland does not need more capital ships. It is against their RP.
As it stands, all the houses have a relatively full ship line. There are no holes that are missing and a must to be filled, any more ships would just be for vanity purposes and make balancing that little more difficult. And you know no one is going to use them any way, since 'X ship is better, lolwut!'
Really? Then how come in Liberty we see a plethora of Gunboats, Cruisers, Battlecruisers, Carriers, and Dreadnoughts?
I DON'T think it's entirely because Liberty is the starting point. The other houses should get the same amount of ships as Liberty regardless of whether it's their lore or not, if only to balance it out numbers wise.
That said, mixing up the shiplines with experimental ships with custom stats would be a very bad idea and a major balance problem, and unfortunately need to be kept in line with the existing largest house shipline - Liberty's, give or take a bit of HP here, a few guns there.
If anything, Kusari needs a BIGGER (read: heavy) Cruiser, not something that's between their ridiculously small Destroyer and SHF-sized Gunboat. They need a real cruiser, one that can use the light mortar and actually fulfill the job of a cruiser.
The idea is an anti bomber/gunboat platform. It is essentially a heavy gunboat with a cruiser forward gun.
Great, just one more thing we need, a ship that has enough power to fire a cruiser forward gun, and on top of that can spam gb missiles, while being the size of a liberty gunboat -_-
Bad idea. The kusari destroyer is already overpowered in the fact that it's model has almost exactly the same hitbox size as a liberty gunboat, while keeping access to cruiser weaponry and power core. If anything, the Kdessie needs to get a new model that actually makes it a cruiser instead of a flying pwnmobile.
The third, which I won't model because I don't have Bretonian style down, is this:
Not a much better idea than the first, IMO. You're asking for two forward guns, which is more or less the bonus that two battleship turrets will give you, plus a battleship shield? Hell, they made us fight for a bs shield on the geb, and that only has cruiser turrets - plus, it's the size of a battleship, this thing would have to be just as large to apply.
Quote: Bretonian Long-Range Support Cruiser
Compared to Bret. Dessie:
---Armor
-Agility
+++Powercore
+Five Cruiser Turrets that all fire forward and are mounted on a broad plane[/indent]
Load up two missiles and three mortars or vice verse. This thing would be mauled up close, which is why it would need to stay back from the battle.
And, like every other cruiser out there, the only thing you'll be hitting at that range is a zoner juggernaut or rheinland battleship. Oh, and since these are all forward firing guns you've suggested, you cant use thrusters to keep distance from that ship and fire at it at the same time.
Unique ships very rarely work, but most of the time they're a balance nightmare and end up causing more problems and complaints than they fix.
Some cases in point:
-The Geb carrier: BHG cap pilots claim it's overpowered because it's got twice the shields, 50% more hull, and more firepower than their own battlecruiser. On the flip side, any order pilot that's used it hates flying it because of how horribly ineffective it is against anything smaller than an enemy cruiser. Also, despite it's apparent power against caps, it still cannot kill any decent battleship pilot. Now i'm having to wage a campaign to get that fixed -_-
-The Necrosis: Originally meant to be a standard battlecruiser, Dreygon argued that it wasnt effective enough to survive against small craft (the same problem all battlecruisers currently face). In return, it got the ability to mount gunboat turrets, but with a battlecruiser power core (3.6 million energy). Now it can spam gunboat missiles all day long, and it can use the just as effectively as a gunboat because of the thruster mount. On top of that, it still has cruiser turrets and battleship turrets - so everyone now complains that it's overpowered, even for a 'unique' ship.
There are others, but none i've had enough experience on to properly ridicule. In short, the point is... stay away from 'unique' ship types, and let's keep things balanced, mmkay?
like with Persephonee..... That super zoner juggi from ancient times...
Necrosis is supposed to be flown by a maniac who is very intelligent and can controll electronics like he wants...
Anyway, why whine for 1 ship being overpowered, if it still takes just 3 bombers to bring it down?
Kusari NEEDS no new cruiser/battleship/battlecruiser/gunship/gunboat/dreadnought/carrier/juggenought/whatever
LOOK at the OLD kusari cruiser; IT HAD 2.25m ENERGY... AND ITS PRACTICALLY A GUNBOAT.
WHY whine over a big GUNBOAT, with the agility to light mortar fighters more efficiently then a tri-razor bottlenose. (pilot skill ignored)
Kusari shipline is OVERPOWERED by far... only "balancing" is that their ugly looking battleship is just ridiculously out of proportions with the rest of the shipline... being just big, heavy and slow (kusari is meant to be; small, light and fast with a decent sting to it)... Reduce the kusari battleships size and armour and core to.... -25% size, 1m armour and 8m power... then its atleast nothing to whine about
