There is this thing called the Neural-Net that assists in not only communicating with other pilots, it also helps them fly their craft.
Now as to weither or not the N-Net is biological or artificial at its root is debatable, but I've always seen it as biological.
Yes, That means that every pilot in Sirius is chipped in the head & they simply can't fly their craft effectively w/o it...& the ease of communication is a huge bonus.
Hell, a major reoccurring issue with my My first real character dealt with him constantly suffering from splitting headaches everytime his Neural-Net was activated, stemming from chronic tissue rejection when the implant was forced on him by the state the 1st time he went to a Bretonian prison as a teenager & fought the install every step of the way.
I sort of disagree with... Everything that Marburg says. Sorry.
The idea of a chip in everybody's head that makes them be able to fly, send credit transfers, operate the ship's beamery, and everything else that people blame on the NN is slightly ridiculous to me. Mainly because if it can do all that, we're getting into the range of Mass Effect style biotic powers. In addition, if it the chip helps them fly to such a great degree that without it their mortal minds would be crippled with the complexity of the ships implies that you might need, maybe ten people for something the size of a dreadnought to control all the systems aboard.
Aside from that, since every electronic device can be influenced from the outside in some way, shape, or form, then (going along with your headaches) it stands to reason that you could overload and explode somebody's head by making their chip access a hundred and one different functions.
i treat capitol ships*and even some high end fighters) like star trek, you have voice only or you can get a video link and the ship translates it acordingly
smaller ships (mabye light ighters) are voice only due to size and various other technology limitations (ie the size of the transciver for one thing)
Surely not that cruise speed is therefore 1/3 of a speed greater than light. I don't care what you say, a trade lane doesn't take you past the speed of light, and thus the vocabulary used in Freelancer is unreliable.
It's entirely probable that the developers didn't want to beat the dead horse that is "Extra-net", so they picked Neural.
P.S. Everything is out of proportion! Don't give me that nonsense about, "Well, you -do- travel a month long journey rather quickly across systems...". You also use a liquid fuel source to get across it in five minutes.
It doesn't matter if you think it's ridiculous or not Magoo, it simply doesn't matter, beacuse the way the N-N works has never been described in detail by either the game developers or the mod developers.
People can RP any way they see fit
Now, as to it being ridiculous? Not in the least...no more ridiculous than having a wireless router connecting a person to the net today.
Remember Magoo, we are dealing with a society that is more than 800 years more advanced than we are. & the reason I scoff at every rebuttal you've made, is because it seems you are looking at it from a present day viewpoint.
We talk in rp. Also, while apearing in the screen.
And I have also something to add. I wouldn't really like something like massive teamspeak to support everyone really talking in characters vio microphones or something. Things would get ugly.
