On this: http://discoverygc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=17521
(Liberty Navy Ship - Las Vegas) anti-fighter gunboat i had some time ago, i kept enough people to maintain full combat status for one shift. It was not supposed to be in deep incursions, so i didn't require several shifts to be filled. 18 people were enough, including support crewmembers. For a full-time combat gunboat, i'd say about 50 would be required. Even today's small destroyers have a quite large crew.

I honestly think as long as you RP you have a lot of crew, you do not neccesarily require to speak for them all. After all, at most, only comms officer and captain would talk over communications. On broadcast, it would most likely be the captain only. But i consider the bare minimum to keep spaceship crew on board, with maybe some oxygen or something, although you could assume those would be in-built in the ship's life support systems.

I'd think they'd primarily be used for boarding large smuggling ships. And/Or subduing enemy escape pod contents.

Hello,

its quite reasonable to think that in freelancer era computer can easily control entire ship with pilot just issuing verbal commands and doing important jobs him self, naturally if there are more people to do it it will be better.

Today space shuttle gets to orbit and back only on computer control and is piloted just in space and at landing maneuver.

So why couldnt single pilot in gunboat say some notorious line like attack pattern beta four and just sit back and enjoy the ride. Im not saying that it would be as effective as ship with full crew RP wise.

My gunboat is run by crew of 5 and we are all mercenaries for hire, but that doesnt mean that i let them talk on system wide channel when im in command, situation dependant ofc.

Outer ship channels represent entire ship, when captain lets someone else talk he is essencially giving representation of entire ship and crew to that person, thats a tough choice and such privillege would be given only to senior officers for military vessels and people close to captain on civilian ships, since on this server we are held accountable more for what we say or dont say less for actions.

Im only saying that because i find very funny when sometimes battleships let inner ship comunications in system chanels like talk with chief engineer etc (i know it helps your RP).

Imagine that you would be in your yacht and floating in radio range of some naval warship and radio wouldnt shut up telling you what they are doing on that ship ;)

That's a good one, I liked it.

To answer the "WHY RP THE SPEECH OF EVERYONE ON A SHIP" question from some of you - for a start, I don't. I have a selection of important bridge crew members on my one and only cruiser - a captain, a sub-commander/science officer, a helmsman/navigator, an engineer and an assisting A.I.

My captain is by far the person who speaks the most, but sometimes I'd like to spice things up a bit and play out a mini-episode happening onboard involving other crew members. From an away team mission to a nearby planet to a humorous incident where the science officer has accidently killed the captain's pet in an experiment. I like RP'ing these and I'm sure other people enjoy them too.

I wasn't criticising one man caps, I was only curious about their way and variety of RP which in my opinion would be pretty limited.

Well Tenacity.

I remember in SP there was guys there that didn't have Battleships and demanded that you power down your vessels and prepare to be boarded. There is also the fact that it is possible to travel in a quasi one man space suit and board an enemy vessel Star Wars esque.

http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Zero-G_as...ormtrooper comes to mind.

I would say like five to ten people:

Quote: ◘1 Captain - (that commands the crew for maximum efficiency)
1 Pilot - (that controls the vessel's movements)
2 Gunners - (one for primary guns like forward gun, battle razors and other "special" guns and one for small turrets)
1 Navigator - (that sets waypoints and locations on navmap)
1 Engineer - (that fixes the internal problems of the vessel)
1 Transmissioner - (that takes care of transmissions and communications)

That is my list.I hope it will help you.
