Do we have an equivalent of pirated media in game at the moment? The closest thing I can think of is Counterfeit Software, which is rather specific with the word "software". What about physical media distribution like CDs and DVDs we have now?

Unless in FLverse everyone gets their entertainment from the Neural Net, there'd still be people refuse to be hooked up or can't afford the implant and be wanting to do it the old fashioned way - put a DVD into a player and watch a film on their monitors.

My request is to change the name of Counterfeit Software to a more generalised term like Counterfeit Media or Counterfeit Discs. There are more than just software that can be counterfeited you know.

Why would every single mundane thing need to be specifically described? We are all here because we all have a vivid imagination. Why not use it to lift up the suspension of disbelief & not be nitpicky? Imho, it's not necessary to be specific about each & every tedious little detail. Why not load up on Counterfit softaware & just pretend it's something more specific? ::shrug::

The problem is that Counterfeit Software is currently too specific. Inversely, if they were to be renamed to Counterfeit Goods, it'd won't be neccessary to be specific about each and every tedious little detail. It'll be needless to load up Counterfeit Software and pretend it's something else.

but I've RP'ed on server to others that the "conterfit software" is not software at all, so I have to say that your claim that it's too specific is simply untrue. All I had to do was RP a bit & be my usual convincing self by talking out of my ass to avoid piracy. With a little effort, you can sell ice to an eskimo even if it says 'hot sauce' on the label

Of course a movie or something is software, too. It's certainly no hardware or is it?

Besides something like a Holotainment needs a little more software than only the visuals and the accoustics.

So: it's software, right? Actually very unspecific information on some kind of data-carrier.

Counterfeit Software is very general actually, in my opinion. It covers most of the data that a computer can use. It includes operating programs or other applications, games, music and movie libraries and plenty other stuff. I think the infocard description pretty much covers it up.

COUNTERFEIT SOFTWARE

Most of the software used in Sirius is transferred long distances through wireless channels built into trade lanes and jump gates. However, the channels are extensively firewalled against intrusions, and no unlawful factions except for Lane Hackers can gain access to them. In the recent 200 years, a wide market of counterfeit software arose in Sirius sector. Different kinds of software, like operating systems, security programs, or video games, are cracked and illegaly copied onto high-density optical disks or flash drives. The disks are later delivered to customers. Carrying counterfeit software is profitable, but no less dangerous business: it is considered illegal in all four Sirius Houses.

The fact that Counterfeit Software has "software" in it gives me the suggestions that they are mainly computer applications and video games, other than entertainment media such as music and movies.

But that's just what my interpretation of software is though.
