AFAIK they removed that from the ID. I could be wrong, but I thought they did. I'm pretty sure they removed the "can pirate only when hired by pirates" line on the ID because people were using the ID to pirate when other pirates were around.

The current Merc ID just doesn't have enough flexability to be used for it's current use as we are using it. Either we need an Unlawful (Pirate) Mercenary ID, the factions in question need to have their own ID, or they need to submit SRP requests to the admins to get the entire faction blanket SRPed.

I dont like the idea. By creating unlawful Merc ID, we would make normal merc ID very similar to BH ID. Let the Merc ID be only merc ID.

I can see what you mean now that I think about it. You're right. The only thing I can hope for then is to lobby the admins to put the pirating ability back on the Merc ID (if it was taken off, but I'm pretty sure it was). That way unlawful mercenaries can function with the proper ID.

I am sorry dud but that is never gonna happen. Then every other merc you see will be pirating instead of escorting..

You cannot pirate with a Mercenary ID simply for the fact that the Pirate ID exists for that purpose, and for good reason - it adjusts your reputation chart, so you can't dock on lawful bases. Which is good.

If you make piracy available for Mercenary ID, nobody will use the Pirate ID anymore, because it won't hack their rep, making it easier to 'abuse'. And adding an 'unlawful' Mercenary ID is plain dumb, because the Pirate ID exists for that.

Plus, if he pirates by himself, he's not even classed as mercenary.

mercenary
One who serves or works merely for monetary gain; a hireling.

Whereas:

pirate
One who preys on others; a plunderer.

One thing is getting paid by someone to do a certain job, the other is robbing someone directly.

I don't think you caught the meaning in my wording, let me try again.

Before, the mercenary ID allowed you to pirate as long as you were under contract by individual in question. Not pirate just in general as a mercenary being HIRED by the person in question.

I'm not saying allow the Mercenaries to pirate on a whim, just while they are under contract.

You mean that a Zoner Whale can Hire my mercenary bomber to pirate someone if he hires me?

In that case yes we should add this to the ID.

The point is, mercenaries are there to either provide security or perform hits on people. They're hired, they get paid by their employer.

In your case, if the person in question is 'hired' to plunder a ship, he's basically earning money from the piracy act, not being paid by their employer. So in the end, he's still a pirate, not a mercenary.

What we do need to add though, is the ability of Pirate IDs to perform bounty contracts.

I believe how the ID was worded before it was taken off was something like:

"-May pirate while under contract and in the company of other pirates"

...or something to that effect. I don't remember the actual wording that was on it, but that was similar to what it said, so no, you couldn't hire your whale, but other pirates could to help them out on pirating runs on lanes and what not. But I think it was taken off. (On a government computer and cannot get access to the wiki from here, it's blocked).

Incorrect, sir. They were hired, paid to help the pirates pirate traders. As an extra pair of guns. When it was on the merc ID before, I did it tons of times. I never took cargo and the pirate was the only one who got the credits, not me. I was just there to provide cover for him, however, being there and threatening a trader counts a pirating, so, I got paid by the pirate to help him at the start, and didn't take credits from the trader.

...and, adding the ability to do pirating to the pirate ID would be cool, but only for unlawful hits, which in such a case, would remedy this entire post because then it would work out the same as the Unlawful Mercenary ID would have done.
