Liberty Marine Corps

Well the Marine Corps uses Warrant Officers as basically people that have extensive knowledge, training and experience with particular equipment. None of them in the Corps really fly at all.

Currently, the whole Naval Aviator program in use right now, accepts very few enlisted personnel for flight school and usually it requires an Officers commission. So the rank of Second Lieutenant would really work since to be a Marine Pilot right now you need that rank.

Although, judging by the fact that this is Freelancer, and that the brevity of ranks available does not allow a lot of wiggle room. I merely suggested such not only because of Warrant Officer uses in other services, but just to allow alot more spacing in the ranking system.

After all, I find it so odd that suddenly faction ranks pile upon a tremendous responsibility - Your responsibilities per rank should increase steadily, not suddenly be heaped upon you.

Yes, quite. I was nervous for a moment that you were suggesting that WO's flew in the Marine Corp. An impression which I believe may have carried over from the Army's own program.

Given how common spaceflight is in the future, however, I do not believe it would be outside the realm of possibility to see WO's tasked with the duties of commanding a technical crew aboard a small freighter or transport.

But then that is simply speculation.

But since this is a piloting group mirroring the contemporary Corp the employed rank structure seems appropriate. Though I am missing my Major and Lt. Generals. Hard to play the be my little general game without those two Q_Q.

Considering that therers allready |LN| and other various such tags in use, I dont see [LM] creating an issue.

Actually, yes, it does create a potential issue and [LMC] would probably be the better tag.

In regard to similar looking tags not creating problems for the [LN]...Uhm, where have you been, Harcourt?

members of the [LN] are constantly being confused for the indies that fly around as |LN| {LN} and other such tags like that, in fact, alot of times, we try to get people using such tags to alter them so as to not so closely resemble ours...Sooo, yeah.

Aaaanyways, despite the [LM] part, I do like the idea of an organized Libertonian Marine Corps, however I honestly wonder what sorts of things they would wind up doing in game.

I mean, I know the actual Marine Corps has a nice Aviation section, but they're still a largely ground oriented force so I mean...like, I do think this is a nifty idea with lots of RP potential, I'm just left wondering what exactly it is that they'll be doing in game?

I can imagine some really great forum RP though.

The Corp has an extensive aviation department which works in concert with the Navy at the bidding and pleasure of the President. They perform numerous patrol and drug interdiction tasks across the world.

I'm sure they could find something to do in Liberty.

Keep in mind that these are future Marines. The Navy they work with now is in outer space.

Oh of course, but I mean, is this faction going to be an entirely space-borne branch inRP, or will it be that they have space-borne units but the majority of them are aboard landing ships and other such things?

Or will this group be yet another group to do the duties of the [LN] ?

We could always throw in the Ground Infantry Concept with a Navy Icebreaker concept.

The LMC don't just have to be the first ones to fight on the ground. You could call it force projection for the Navy. Ahighly mobile, adaptable, multi-role organization that could per se do the following...

Lets say you have a random planet with a few defenses, the LMC come in with their ships and spearhead an assault against the Space borne defenses and then immediately begin the ground invasion.

Seeing as ships in Freelancer seem 'alot' more smaller than the totally epic Halo capital ships, I don't think that a single regular Navy Cruiser or Battleship would normally carry enough Marines onboard to conduct a large-scale ground attack.

Although seeing as the Star Wars universe details a Imperial Star Destroyer (1.6 Kilometers from Engine to Bow) holding the following.

# Officers (9,235)
# Infantry (9,700)
# Enlisted (27,850)

We really should probably work out the regular crew sizes of certain vessels and how ships are operated...

As I recall from my tour of duty, if we're properly roleplaying Marine Corp aviation officers, we'll be sitting on our asses bitching about the enlisted and counting our money.

Then we'll turn up the air conditioning and laugh and laugh at the people sweating out in the sun.

We have Warrant Officers in the Navy also. I don't recall them flying. They are usually in some sort of Technical branch.

Also I suggested the [LMC] to keep these guys from catching some effluva flung their way when it wasn't deserved, much like the [LN] receives for individuals that people want them to control, yet tie their hands behind their backs about it.

As I recall from my tour of duty, if we're properly roleplaying Marine Corp aviation officers, we'll be sitting on our asses bitching about the enlisted and counting our money.

Then we'll turn up the air conditioning and laugh and laugh at the people sweating out in the sun.

We get you back when we call you out for everything under the blue sun, we like our JDAM Care Packages.

Also, one other thing to consider would be - The organization structure of current Marine Corps aviation. Group, Squadron, Wings, and etc... I mean, its a bit odd to refer to a gigantic group of fighters as a "Platoon" or a "Company".
