All gunboats are good for being targets, Ursus. That's what IMG needs, a big target for other gunboat to remain distracted for some time to create an opening for the bombers to strike.
As a personal owner of the new IMG GB, that thing is awesome.
6 forward and 5 everywhere else coverage, thin as they come, agile as a Tridente, medium powercore, and more hull than a damn Imperator. A CAU5 IMG GB has more armor than my CAU8 KuEx. I expected to see them everywhere, they're one of the best of not the best GB in the game ATM.
Perhaps IMG| should invest in some? I think you'll find yourselves satisfied.
Anyways, we can discuss elsewhere. Main point: GBs are balanced.
Guys, why can't you accept that this is not about IMG|?
This is my experience with gunboats. From flying them, fighting them on many, many occasions with different ships, lawfuls and unlawfuls and in different combinations of ships.
That experience makes me voice my thoughts.
This is not a whine. My whining sounds different.:)
This is not a "give me advice how can a convoy survive". I know how that works.
This is Jack, saying what he thinks about GB-snub balance. Because he thinks that there is something that should be looked at by the balancing team. Nothing else.

Lateral turret coverage is alright but light, and only 2 out the bottom (yikes). Also the very large tail is very easy to hit. Biggest benefit is the agility but that's not great either. Its just outmatched against ships its likely to face.
A bug found in new update -
Rheinland Battleship slot 6 cannot rotate in 360 degree arc anymore (it seems like it cannot be positioned straight forward), while a "sister" slot 4 can. One of those isn't right.
Why do most of the larger transports (the ones over 4k) not have any CM slots?
And yet a few, like the Vache, l'Ane and Atlas have not only CMs but also CDs?
Not having a CM makes it very frustrating to get past areas that are prone to capital ship patrols, like Leeds and Tau 31. Even with a CM, its not like that makes you invincible to CDs, you still get hit now and then.
Getting pounded on by capship patrols that appear out of nowhere doesn't make for good times.

Due to balance.
If you are passing hostile space with huge transport, incapable of evading hostile, you are doing it wrong. Either you get smuggler's ship, which has CMs, or you don't fly through that hostile space.

Leeds is friendly space that just happens to have hostile frog battleboats all over it. Leeds and its neighbor system Newcastle are also the only local place to get a lot of stuff bases need.
Seems like if you're going to spend that much cash, invest that much materials, into making a big ship like that, that you'd put something as basic as a CM on it.:P
