So I understand upon hitting level 40 you must choose an ID. Here's where it gets iffy, though.

Lets say I'm with a friend of mine and we're pirating (YARRRRRRRRRR). He's in a light fighter to take down the escort, and I'm in a dromedary to store all the loot we get (so it isn't wasted). So upon hitting level 40, I have two options.

1) get a pirate ID...in which case I can't really fly my dromedary.

2) Get a trader ID...in which case I can't really help my friend pirate (YARRR)

I am under the impression that pirates CAN fly smaller freighters like the Dromedary. Remember, you always see pirates like the rogues with Mules, which is a freighter. I would just say, go ahead and get your frighter, there really isn't anything wrong with that.

And you have to remember, your not actually TRADING - your scaveging...

I'm sure there can be exeptions like this...

Damn, you can start your own faction - SCAVENGERS !!!

Although I'm a Bounty Hunter, so don't even think about it !! :-|

Verg's saying that it's more of a freighter, and not a transport. If it was a Large Train, or a Container Transport, then you couldn't do both, but it's a simple Dromedary, so you're fine.

I am a long-absent Supreme Commander, Executive Commander, Grand Admiral, Fleet Admiral, and Captain in the mighty Hellfire Legion. I have returned, and am on an urgent mission from Drake Thastus to return the Legion to its former glory, and to claim the galaxy for its own. Only then will I be able to rest.

I thought that's how it might work. Thanks, that works, and makes a bit more sense (I agree having a transport or train going around looting other transports would be retarded)

You might also consider joining up with the Junkers. They're pretty much scavengers who are pretty close to the borderline between lawful and unlawful, slightly more on the unlawful side.

That reminds me about an issue with the Hogosha, but that's a topic for another, erm, well, topic...

It's official, I have too few ships now...

They scavenge by going through preexisting debris fields. I scavenge by creating mini debris fields from transports

Pirates can fly freighters (I recommend Kadesh [I think] Freighter, as it can even help take out the other transport) they just can't trade. But kill and loot you can.

Similar question:
I realize this is probably futile, but just in case. Is it legal to pirate in a Lux liner (probably not) and either way, is said ship a transport or a capship?
