Not sure about the link anymore - but I can email you, or anyone else who wants it - the exe file.
BEWARE! THIS IS TECHNICALLY A HACKED FL.EXE!
As such, it is illegal to use in Discovery 24/7 Server. Only use this in your own private setting to evaluate the mod.
I have it as a seperate exe file when I want to boot up FL and try things in OpenSP.
I am very interested in doing more playtesting with others on a private server. It is my belief that rebalancing wont be nearly as big a job as some people might think - rather the main adjustment is in player tactics.
Using it on Discovery RP 24/7 is considered cheating , as Friday says. If detected (and yes, it is detectable), it falls under rule 2.1 :
Quote:2.1 Following actions are considered cheating on server:
- Using non-Discovery mods, speed-related and loot-related mods especially, as well as using modifications that improve stats of items and ships;
- Changing account information and using any kinds of software that changes normal gameplay;
- Using any equipment not included for sale/looting in Discovery mod, cloaks for example;
- Using equipment that exceeds ship specs;
- Cloning, e.g. creating new characters to collect starting money;
- Single player using two or more computers to fly their own characters.
Do not whine if you used the edited exe, and suddenly can't access any of your accounts.
If it gets included by default for all players, as part of an official minor update for 4.85, or as part of 4.86, then it is allowed to use. Untill then, it is not.
- it needs extensive rebalancing - and with the turret splits - we are rebalancing on another end atm - doing that on two ends or more lengthens the process - and we are sure that at some time... players want to get the update to 4.86
- the really problematic ships are not the large battleship, that can be hit no matter if they fly straight or not. - the problem are gunboats and very small and agile destroyers that are not too easy to hit already - and might become as hard to hit like a fighter if they were able to steer around while in turret view. - you can expect a ship like the bottlenose to increase in efficiency by like 100% if that was done without rebalancing.
it is not denied at that time - but there is simply no time to look into it more closely.... but i am sure - most people agree that a ship should be able to steer - even in turret mode. such things take time though.

I dont mind that things take time - hell we are still waiting for next mod version with baited breath!
I just dont want it ruled out as being 'too difficult' to implement.
I am looking to playtest it with people on a private basis, so players can see for themselves how it might impact balance by actually fighting each other outside Discovery.
It is one thing to advocate for a change such as this - but it is another to expect the devs to do research that we players can do for ourselves.
Are there any people out there who consider themselves a Champion for their faction? Or generally a badass non-snub pilot?
Or perhaps a humble Freighter pilot looking to see how this might affect them?
PM me and lets set up some private testing sessions whilst the Devs focus their attention on the next mod version.
Yes, I've been watching this thread and I myself am a massive supporter of turret view steering. However, my idea to achieve it is simpler - unlock cameras in freeflight mode so it's possible to turn, bank, strafe and shoot in every direction.
